Fracture resistance of materials
1982This section will be concerned with the case of an existing crack; the conditions that led to the initiation of this crack are not of interest for the discussion. For a perfectly brittle extension of this crack by cleavage, the criterion for crack propagation seems fairly easy.

Fracture Resistance of Structural Alloys
1996Abstract Fracture mechanics is a multidisciplinary engineering topic that has foundations in both mechanics and materials science. This article summarizes the microstructural aspect of fracture resistance in structural materials. It provides a discussion on basic fracture principles and schematically illustrates the mechanism of crack ...

Fatigue and Fracture Resistance of Bone
2015In Chapter 4, we examined the mechanical properties of bone when it is fractured monotonically by a load sufficient to exceed the failure stress of the material. Structures may also fail more gradually. There are two principal ways in which this can happen: creep and fatigue.

Resistance of metals to spalling fracture
Combustion, Explosion and Shock Waves, 1982By using capacitive sensors the velocity profiles of free specimen surfaces are recorded in this paper, and normal fracture stresses are determined for aluminum AD-1, duraluminum D16, copper M2, nickel NP2 and stainless steel Kh19N10T under similar loading conditions.

Fracture Resistance of Nanocrystalline Ni
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2007Atomic level simulations are used to study crack propagation mechanisms in nanocrystalline Ni. Digital samples with a mean grain size of 5 and 8 nm containing 125 grains were used. For both grain sizes, the mechanism of crack propagation involves the formation of nanocracks along grain boundaries in the vicinity of the main crack.

Fracture Resistance of Aluminum Alloys
2019Abstract This article discusses the concepts underlying linear elastic fracture mechanics and elastic-plastic fracture mechanics as well as their importance in characterizing the fracture behavior of the high-strength aluminum alloys. It describes the three methods used for analyzing elastic-plastic fracture, namely R-curve concept, J ...
