Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Critical evaluation of fracture strength testing for endodontically treated teeth: a finite element analysis study [PDF]

open access: yesRestorative Dentistry & Endodontics, 2019
ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to investigate whether the diameter and direction of the plunger and simulation of the periodontal ligament (PDL) affected the stress distribution in endodontically treated premolars.MethodsA fracture strength test was

Dynamic Brazilian Split Tests on Gypsum as a Model Material for Soft Rocks [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Understanding the deformation behaviour of rocks under dynamic loads is crucial in rock mechanics. This study investigates the rate-dependent tensile strength and fracture response of gypsum, a model material for soft rocks, across two different sample ...

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Dynamic fracture strength of rock

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1979
Dynamic fracture strengths of a representative suite of crustal rocks have been determined. The rocks investigated included silicates and carbonates of varying grain size and porosity, oil shale with several kerogen contents and orientations, and fused silica.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Particle flow simulation experiments on the influence of non-penetrating random fractures on the deformation and failure characteristics of sandstone

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Fractures in rock masses are significant factors that weaken the strength of rock masses and alter their failure modes, posing threats to the safety of various geotechnical engineering projects.
