Fracture surfaces of granular pastes

The European Physical Journal E, 2013
Granular pastes are dense dispersions of non-colloidal grains in a simple or a complex fluid. Typical examples are the coating, gluing or sealing mortars used in building applications. We study the cohesive rupture of thick mortar layers in a simple pulling test where the paste is initially confined between two flat surfaces.

The Effect of Fracture Surface Roughness on Propped Fracture Conductivity Using 3D-Printed Fracture Surfaces

SPE Western Regional Meeting, 2023
Abstract When rocks are fractured in tension, the fracture surfaces created are rough, with a wide range of surface morphologies possible. In previous studies of propped fracture conductivity using fractured samples, the fracture surface topography was found to have a strong influence on fracture conductivity and stimulation efficiency ...

Surface roughness of anisotropic fracture surfaces

Materials Characterization, 1993
Abstract A new assumption-free method has recently been developed for estimating the surface roughness parameter ( R s ) of fracture surfaces regardless of the relative extent of isotropy or anisotropy exhibited. An overview of the new method, as well as certain statistical aspects associated with sampling procedure, are presented.

STATISTICS OF FRACTURE SURFACES

Fractals, 1993
Experimental measurements of the roughness exponent ζ of some fracture surfaces are reported. Whatever the fracture mode, for unbranched (aluminium alloy) or branched (Ni3Al) surfaces, ζ is found quite close to 0.8, in accordance with other experimental determinations, but not with theoretical predictions of standard 3-d models.

Fractured surfaces of myocardial cells

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1970
Combined techniques of conventional electron microscopy and freeze-etching have been used to examine heart tissue with particular attention to the specialized features of the myocardial cell membrane and the three-dimensional arrangement of cellular components at the fine structural level.

The Texture of Acidized Fracture Surfaces—Implications for Acid Fracture Conductivity

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2006
Abstract In an acid fracturing treatment, fracture conductivity is created by differential etching of the fracture surface by the acid – without non-uniform dissolution along the fracture face, the fracture will close after pumping ceases, and little lasting conductivity is created.

Fracture-surface analysis of dental ceramics

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1989
This study demonstrated that quantitative fractography can be used to study failed aluminous and glass-ceramic central porcelains. Fracture surfaces of DICOR and Vitadur-N core porcelain modulous-of-rupture bars were studied to identify fracture mirror features useful in (1) locating the source of fracture and (2) calculating the stress at fracture in ...

Fractal characterization of fracture surfaces in concrete

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1990
Abstract Fractal geometry is used to characterize the roughness of cracked concrete surfaces through a specially built profilometer, and the fractal dimension is subsequently correlated to the fracture toughness and direction of crack propagation. Preliminary results indicate that the fracture surface is indeed fractal over two orders of magnitudes ...

Fractures of the distal humeral articular surface

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 2007
Fractures of the distal humeral articular surface which do not involve the medial and lateral columns are often more extensive than is apparent from plain radiographs. This retrospective study describes the epidemiology of this injury using modern classification systems and compares pre-operative radiography with operative findings.

Fractured surface of opal

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1970
Fine parallel lines were found on fractured surface of opal under reflection optical microscope. Study of replication electron microscopy of fractured surface with fine lines revealed three distinctive patterns. These were (1) lamellae with voids and without voids, (2) lamellae with two kinds of voids, and (3) lamellae without voids.
