Creep Characterization of Inconel 718 Lattice Metamaterials Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
Herein, the creep characteristics of additively manufactured Inconel 718 metamaterials are investigated. The creep behavior of metamaterials and the effects of microstructural defects are assessed, and the microstructure defects are accurately captured using Kachanov's creep damage model.

A Variational Beam Model for Failure of Cellular and Truss‐Based Architected Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
Herein, a versatile and efficient beam modeling framework is developed to predict the nonlinear response and failure of cellular, truss‐based, and woven architected materials. It enables the exploration of their design space and the optimization of their mechanical behavior in the nonlinear regime. A variational formulation of a beam model is presented

Fracture toughness of bone at the microscale

open access: yesActa Biomaterialia, 2021
Bone's hierarchical arrangement of collagen and mineral generates a confluence of toughening mechanisms acting at every length scale from the molecular to the macroscopic level. Molecular defects, disease, and age alter bone structure at different levels and diminish its fracture resistance.

Effect of rice husk (treated/untreated) and rice husk ash on fracture toughness of epoxy bio-composite

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2020
Present work studies the effect of particle reinforcement on fracture toughness of bio-composites. The filler used has been taken as rice husk. Epoxy resin has been taken as matrix material. Composites with varying filler loading of 10, 20, 30 and 40 wt.%

Modeling the effect of temperature and notch root radius on fracture toughness

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
In this work, a physics-based analytical model without any fitting parameters for fracture toughness depending on temperature was proposed. The quantitative relationship between fracture toughness, melting point, Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, and ...

Hardness and fracture toughness models by symbolic regression [PDF]

open access: yesEur. Phys. J. Plus 138, 643 (2023), 2023
Superhard materials with good fracture toughness have found wide industrial applications, which necessitates the development of accurate hardness and fracture toughness models for efficient materials design. Although several macroscopic models have been proposed, they are mostly semiempirical based on prior knowledge or assumptions, and obtained by ...
