The effect of TiN inclusions on the fracture mechanism of 20CrMnTi steel with lath martensite

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2020
This study aims to investigate the effect of TiN inclusions on the fracture mechanism of 20CrMnTi steel with martensite. Size of martensite packets, blocks and TiN inclusions were characterized, and the room-temperature tensile properties, impact ...

Experimental Investigation on the Tensile and Fracture Properties of Burst-Prone Coal under Quasistatic Condition

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2021
To study the tensile and fracture properties of the specimen under the quasistatic loading, the Brazilian disc splitting method and the notched semicircular bend (NSCB) method were used to test the tensile properties of coal specimens, and the fracture ...

Elastic fracture toughness for ductile metal pipes with circumferential surface cracks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Surface cracks have long been recognized as a major cause for potential failures of metal pipes. In fracture analysis, the widely used method is based on linear elastic fracture mechanics.

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Fracture Behavior of Single-Crystal Sapphire in Different Crystal Orientations

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
In order to study the anisotropy of fracture toughness and fracture mechanism of single-crystal sapphire, the three-point bending tests and the single-edge V-notch beam (SEVNB) were used to test the fracture toughness of A-plane, C-plane, and M-plane ...

The effect of ceria co-doping on chemical stability and fracture toughness of Y-TZP [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The fracture toughness and ageing resistance of yttria, ceria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (Y, Ce-TZP) were evaluated as a function of grain size and ceria content.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Mezzo-scopic Analysis of Fracture Toughness in Steels

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2002
The cleavage fracture toughness of steels was mezzo-scopically analyzed on the basis of the statistical local fracture criterion approach. The statistical stress criterion at the crack tip region suggests that the cleavage fracture toughness in steels ...

Vpliv podhlajevanja na lomno žilavost martenzitnega nerjavečega jekla AISI 420 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cryogenic treatments have been employed over the last three decades in both tool and high-alloy steels to improve wear resistance, mainly through the transformation of retained austenite and the precipitation of fine carbides.
