Flow in Porous Media with Fractures of Varying Aperture
We study single-phase flow in a fractured porous medium at a macroscopic scale that allows to model fractures individually. The flow is governed by Darcy's law in both fractures and porous matrix. We derive a new mixed-dimensional model, where fractures are represented by $(n-1)$-dimensional interfaces between $n$-dimensional subdomains for $n\ge 2 ...

Robust Discretization of Flow in Fractured Porous Media [PDF]
Flow in fractured porous media represents a challenge for discretization methods due to the disparate scales and complex geometry. Herein we propose a new discretization, based on the mixed finite element method and mortar methods. Our formulation is novel in that it employs the normal fluxes as the mortar variable within the mixed finite element ...

Numerical modeling of two-phase flows in heterogeneous and fractured media is of great interest in petroleum reservoir engineering. The classical model for two-phase flows in porous media is not completely thermodynamically consistent since the energy ...

Thermally activated fracture of porous media
The lifetime of a porous media, submitted to a constant subcritical stress, is studied by means of a numerical model. This model is based on a spring network where the porosity is represented by missing springs. The dynamics is produced adding thermal fluctuations in spring forces.
