3-D Simulation of Wave Propagation in the Fractured Porous Media for Subsurface Sensing: A Rotated Staggered Finite-Difference Algorithm Based on Equivalent Medium Theory

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2023
In the geophysical exploration, the simulation and investigation of wavefields in the porous media including multiple discrete fractures is a challenging problem.

Hydraulic Fracturing and Filtration in Porous Medium

SPE Russian Oil and Gas Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2006
Abstract The practical problem arises in enhancing oil recovery and is relevant to hydraulic fracturing process and subsequent frontal displacement of fluids from subterranean environment. Entrapment of residual fluid by the displacing one lowers down the displacement quality leaving most of residual viscous fluid in porous matrix.

Cohesive fracture mechanics for a multi‐phase porous medium

Engineering Computations, 2003
This paper presents a mathematical model for the analysis of cohesive fracture propagation through a non‐homogeneous porous medium. Governing equations are stated within the frame of Biot's theory, accounting for the flow through the solid skeleton, along the fracture and across its sides toward the surrounding medium.

Rigorous Modelling of Fractures in a Porous Medium

SPE Latin American and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference, 2000
Abstract While fractured formations are possibly the most important contributors to the oil production worldwide, modelling fractured formations with rigorous treatments has eluded reservoir engineers in the past. To-date, one of the most commonly used fractured reservoir model remains the one that was suggested by Warren and Root more ...

Domain decomposition for a fractured porous medium

2006
This presentation concerns flow in a porous medium with one or more faults or fractures. In the model to be presented the fractures are treated as interfaces between neighboring subdomains. Then a domain decomposition method, in which the transmission conditions are continuity of the pressure and Darcy flow along the n-1 dimensional fracture ...

Direct parameter identification of fractured porous medium

Advances in Water Resources, 1983
Abstract A direct method of parameter identification for a fracture porous medium can be formulated. The coefficient of piezo-conductivity and the virtual fracture transmissivity can be determined using a combination of graphical methods and approximate formulae. Field calculation provides a practical demonstration of the proposed approach.

Modeling Of Flow in a Fracture Inside Porous Medium

Proceedings, 2014
SUMMARY The modeling of oil and gas production processes such as hydraulic fracturing or oil displacement requires coupled description of free flow and flow in a porous medium. In this work we used Stokes' equation for free viscous flow coupled with Brinkman's equation for liquid flow in a porous medium.

A new way to construct synthetic porous fractured medium

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2017
Abstract We have developed a new, efficient and feasible methodology of fractured sample construction, based on: cement, sand, styrofoam and paint thinner. The styrofoam cuts (square pieces or penny-shaped cuts) are chemically leached out using solvent.
