A Comparative Analysis Of Fractured and Porous Medium Radionuclide Transport
MRS Proceedings, 1981Modeling of radionuclide transport in geological formations has until recently been limited to the treatment of nonfractured porous media. Recently researchers in Sweden, Canada, France, and the USA have become interested in the problems of nuclide transport in geological formations which may contain fractures. Since many conventional porous-medium ion-

Effective-medium theory for the fracture of fractal porous media
Physical Review B, 1989A general energy-balance theory is developed for the fracture of fractal porous media using an effective-medium approximation to couple the fracture resistance to the (fractal) mass distribution. The decreasing resistance field derived increases the size and rate of size increase of flaws under the influence of localized loading.

Hydraulic fracturing of a saturated porous medium-II: Special cases
Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 1985Abstract This analysis investigates the steady-state propagation of a hydraulic fracture in an infinite isotropic fluid-saturated elastic porous medium in the limiting cases of slow and rapid crack growth. In the limiting case of slow crack propagation, it is found that the governing field equations become decoupled, and that a closed-form solution ...

Hydraulic fracturing of a saturated porous medium-I: General theory
Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 1985Abstract This investigation deals with the problem of steady state hydraulic fracture in an infinite isotropic fluid-saturated elastic porous medium induced by a uniform pressure applied to the crack surfaces. A quasi-static approach is employed in the study.

Gravity currents over fractured substrates in a porous medium
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2007We consider the behaviour of a gravity current in a porous medium when the horizontal surface along which it spreads is punctuated either by narrow fractures or by permeable regions of limited extent. We derive steady-state solutions for the current, and show that these form part of a long-time asymptotic description which may also include a self ...

Model of a porous medium with an elastic fractured skeleton
Izvestiya, Physics of the Solid Earth, 2009The model of a saturated porous medium with a brittle deformable skeleton is formulated in an isothermal approximation. The general form of governing equations is found, which is necessary and sufficient to fulfill the principles of objectivity and thermodynamic consistency.

Numerical simulation of fluid flow in a fractured porous medium
Moscow University Mechanics Bulletin, 2010Various approaches to study the fluid flow in a fractured porous medium are discussed. Three approaches are compared by the example of axisymmetric flow in a fluid conducting layer. In the first approach, an elastic flow regime (Terzaghi’s model) is considered for a layer with homogenized properties. In the second approach, the problem is formulated in

Asymmetry of fluid exchange in a deformable fractured-porous medium
Journal of Engineering Physics and Thermophysics, 2007The mechanism of fluid exchange between fractures and a pore matrix that occurs in the case of flow in a fractured-porous medium has been investigated with the use of an analytical apparatus and numerical modeling. It has been established that the decrease in the permeability of fractures in their deformation causes a symmetry loss by the matrix ...
