Operative Treatment of the Malunited Fibula Fracture

Foot & Ankle International, 2018
Failure to anatomically reduce and stabilize the fractured distal fibula can result in malunion of the fibula and malreduction of the ankle mortise. Fibular malunion results in altered ankle joint biomechanics which often leads to the development of pain, stiffness, and premature joint degeneration.

Remodelling in a malunited phalangeal neck fracture

Injury, 2004
Several authors have noted the lack of significant remodelling of malunited phalangeal neck fractures in children. This has been explained by the fact that there is no epiphysis at the distal end of the phalanx where the fracture occurs. We reviewed the literature and could only find a single case report of complete remodelling of a malunited ...

CORRECTIVE OSTEOTOMY OF MALUNITED FRACTURES OF PHALANGES AND METACARPALS

The Journal of Hand Surgery: Journal of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, 2000
We have retrospectively reviewed our experience of corrective osteotomies for phalangeal and metacarpal malunions in eleven patients over a 5-year period. Rotational metacarpal malunion treated by metacarpal osteotomy and AO plate fixation can be performed with confidence of achieving a good or excellent result.

Articular impingement in malunited fracture of the humeral head

Arthroscopy, 2002
Abstract We report on the case of a fracture of the humeral metaepiphysis, surgical neck, and greater tuberosity treated conservatively. Malunion of a fracture of the greater tuberosity developed an impingement on the glenoid surface, causing an articular locking in internal rotation that resolved with slight pressure and a painful ...

Lateral Decompression for Malunited Os Calcis Fractures

Foot & Ankle, 1985
Nineteen heels in 19 patients underwent a lateral decompression for hindfoot pain secondary to a malunited os calcis fracture with subtalar intra-articular involvement. The operative procedure consisted of a lateral calcaneal bony prominence removal (ostectomy) and sural nerve release or transection.

Bone Remodeling in Malunited Fractures in Children. Is it Reliable?

Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics B, 1997
Fracture malunion is not a rare phenomenon in children due to the frequent use of closed reduction treatments. In this article, the processes of bone remodeling in cases of angular and rotational deformities, overriding of bone fragments, and overgrowth are addressed.

Management of Malunited Fractures of the Metacarpal and Phalangeal Shafts

Hand Clinics, 1988
Malunions of the tubular bones of the hand should be carefully studied to understand the original deforming forces at the time of injury. Once a three-dimensional concept of the deformity is embraced, a careful plan for osteotomy can be developed and executed. Surgical approach must afford adequate access with the least possible injury to soft tissues.

Median neuropathy in malunited fractures of the distal radius

Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 2013
Irritation of the median nerve is a well-characterized complication after acute fractures of the distal radius, but there is limited literature on median neuropathy in malunited fractures. The aims of our prospective study were to estimate the prevalence of the median neuropathy, explore the relationship between radiographic findings and the condition,

Osteotomy for Malunited Forearm Shaft Fractures in Children

Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 2006
Osteotomy to correct malunion after forearm fracture in children is an uncommon procedure. The uncommon nature of this procedure and the complex nature of forearm anatomy contribute to the difficulty of restoring proper alignment. The purpose of this paper is to report nine cases and describe a simplified method for deformity correction.

Staged Reconstruction for Malunited Fractures of the Distal Radius

Journal of Hand Surgery, 2005
This prospective study assessed the outcomes of 26 symptomatic malunited distal radial fractures which were treated with an opening wedge corrective osteotomy and bone grafting with rigid fixation. An ulnar shortening osteotomy was subsequently required as a second-stage operation in five cases to restore normal ulnar variance.
