A Unique Chimeric RNA: ERCC1‐iASPP Drives Benzo[a]pyrene‐Induced Lung Carcinogenesis via Dual Coding and Non‐Coding Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The chimeric RNA ERCC1‐iASPP possesses dual coding and non‐coding functions, synergistically accelerating the process of cellular malignant transformation. Abstract Genetic variation at 19q13.3 critically modulates chemical carcinogen‐induced lung carcinogenesis, particularly in mediating the activity of benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), a major polycyclic ...

Frailty in survival analysis models (parametric frailty, parametric shared frailty, and frailty in Cox models [PDF]

open access: yes
Frailty models are used to model survival times in the presence of overdispersion or group-specific random effects. The latter are distinguished from the former by the term "shared" frailty models.

Association of the clinical frailty scale with hospital outcomes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: The clinical frailty scale (CFS) was validated as a predictor of adverse outcomes in community-dwelling older people. In our hospital, the use of the CFS in emergency admissions of people aged ≥ 75 years was introduced under the Commissioning

Targeted Inhibition of CD74+ Macrophages by Luteolin via CEBPB/P65 Signaling Ameliorates Osteoarthritis Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies CD74⁺ macrophages as key drivers of synovial inflammation in osteoarthritis (OA). The flavonoid luteolin is predicted to inhibit this pathway by blocking Nuclear Factor Kappa‐light‐chain‐enhancer of Activated B cells (NF‐κB) signaling. To enhance delivery, a targeted nanoplatform (MDSPL) is developed.

The meaning of ‘quality’ of homecare for older people: a scoping review

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research
Background How quality of care in homecare for older people is understood is important, because it influences how quality in homecare is delivered, improved, regulated and measured.

Frailty Predicts 30-day mortality following major complications in neurosurgery patients: The risk analysis index has superior discrimination compared to modified frailty index-5 and increasing patient age

open access: yesWorld Neurosurgery: X
Background: Postoperative complications after cranial or spine surgery are prevalent, and frailty can be a key contributing patient factor. Therefore, we evaluated frailty’s impact on 30-day mortality.

Fighting Frailty with the Mediterranean Diet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
It’s appropriate for each of us to examine our eating habits, not just our nutrition intake. The various aspects of the Mediterranean Diet hold potential benefits beyond the important feature of helping to reduce ...

Mitochondrial CISD1 Modulates Microglial Metabolic Reprogramming to Drive Stress Susceptibility in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CDGSH iron sulfur domain 1 (CISD1) mitigates oxidative stress by promoting NADH oxidation and Coenzyme Q (CoQ) reduction. Under chronic stress, elevated CISD1 expression in microglia enhances NAD⁺ production, thereby increasing GAPDH activity and glycolytic flux, while reducing ATP synthesis by inhibiting proton transfer from mitochondrial complexes I ...
