Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Framing Humans and Wild Animals in the Environmental Documentary Film.

open access: yes, 2011
This paper discusses the effects of the decision to include humans and other animals in the same frame in environmental documentaries. After a short discussion on the combination of environmental thought and the documentary concept, a number of examples ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Debating Employment in National TV News: Depoliticised Discourses and Overlooked EU Policies

open access: yesPolitics and Governance
This article examines the framing of employment policies in public debates within European Union (EU) member states. (Mediatised) public debate is not merely a medium for discussing employment policy; it constitutes a normative infrastructure of ...

On the duality of frames and fusion frames

open access: yesHacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, 2017
Optimal frame bounds play a key role in many applications of frame theory, such as filter banks. In this paper, we study the relation between the bounds of a frame and its alternate dual and then present some approach to construct a family of Parseval frames. Also, we survey some problems on duals of fusion frames.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

More Thought - More Framing Effects? [PDF]

open access: yes
Three studies investigate the impact of the amount of elaboration on framing effects. In all three studies, participants were exposed to decision scenarios similar to the Asian disease problem (Tversky & Kahneman, 1981). The results replicated previous

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Do Scale Frames Matter? Scale Frame Mismatches in the Decision Making Process of a "Mega Farm" in a Small Dutch Village

open access: yesEcology and Society, 2011
Scale issues are an increasingly important feature of complex sustainability issues, but they are mostly taken for granted in policy processes. However, the scale at which a problem is defined as well as the scale at which it should be solved are ...
