Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Diffusion-free Dynamics in Rotating Spherical Shell Convection Driven by Internal Heating and Cooling

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The bulk properties of convection in stellar and giant planet interiors are often assumed to be independent of the molecular diffusivities, which are very small.

Characteristics of Decaying Convective Boundary Layers Revealed by Large-Eddy Simulations

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
The decay of the Convective Boundary Layer (CBL) is studied using large-eddy simulations of free and advective CBLs, in which surface heat supply is suddenly cut off. After the cutoff, coherent convective circulations last about one convective time scale

Diffusion‐Free Scaling in Rotating Spherical Rayleigh‐Bénard Convection

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
Direct numerical simulations are employed to reveal three distinctly different flow regions in rotating spherical Rayleigh‐Bénard convection. In the high‐latitude region I vertical (parallel to the axis of rotation) convective columns are generated ...

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

CFD Simulation of Water-Based Hybrid Nanofluid Inside a Porous Enclosure Employing Lorentz Forces

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This research paper deals with the study of hybrid nanofluid flow with free convection in a permeable media using CVFEM. Hybrid nanoparticle (Fe3O4 + MWCNT) with base fluid H2O has been assumed. The magnetic effect is applied on hybrid nanofluid.

MHD free convection flow past an accelerated vertical plate

open access: yesInternational Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 1983
The effect of a uniform transverse magnetic field on the free convection flow of an electrically conducting fluid past an infinite vertical plate for both the classes of impulsive as well as uniformly accelerated motion of the plate is discussed. In this analysis, the magnetic lines of force are assumed to be fixed relative to the plate.

Dual‐Mode Film Based on Highly Scattering Nanofibers and Upcycled Chips‐Bags for Year‐Round Thermal Management

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent radiative cooling devices, adaptable to various weather conditions, have the potential for year‐round energy savings. This study introduces a sustainable dual‐mode film made from polycaprolactone nanofibers and upcycled chip bags for effective thermal management.

Scaling criteria for wall thermal boundary conditions of air- and water-cooled free convective thin plates with volumetric heat generation

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
This study proposes scaling criteria for the wall thermal boundary conditions of thin plates with volumetric heat generation based on free convective/conductive conjugate heat transfer analysis.

Buoyancy induced MHD transient mass transfer flow with thermal radiation

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2016
The problem of a transient MHD free convective mass transfer flow past an infinite vertical porous plate in presence of thermal radiation is studied. The fluid is considered to be a gray, absorbing-emitting radiating but non-scattered medium.
