Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

This is a tutorial review of the basic principles and present status of free-electron lasers (FELs) with particular emphasis on high-gain FELs such as FLASH in Hamburg. With their unprecedented intensity and a pulse duration of a few 10 fs, these novel accelerator-based radiation sources in the ultraviolet and X-ray regime will open new fields in ...

Beam conditioning for free electron lasers: Consequences and methods
The consequences of beam conditioning in four example cases [VISA, a soft x-ray free-electron laser (FEL), LCLS, and a “Greenfield” FEL] are examined. It is shown that in emittance limited cases, proper conditioning reduces sensitivity to the transverse ...

Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Two-bunch seeding of soft x-ray free electron lasers
Seeded free electron lasers (FELs) demonstrate a good performance and are successfully used in different user experiments in extreme ultraviolet and soft x-ray regimes.

High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Method for polarization shaping at free-electron lasers
X-ray free electron lasers provide short, polarized, high-power pulses of x-ray radiation, where polarization properties are determined by the undulator magnetic field.

Delay-detune scan for longitudinal electron beam characterization at free-electron lasers
We present first experimental results of a novel method to study the energy chirp of the electron beam lasing window at a free-electron laser operating in self-amplified spontaneous emission mode.

Pump-Probe Time-Resolved Serial Femtosecond Crystallography at X-Ray Free Electron Lasers
With time-resolved crystallography (TRX), it is possible to follow the reaction dynamics in biological macromolecules by investigating the structure of transient states along the reaction coordinate.

We describe statistical and coherence properties of the radiation from x-ray free electron lasers (XFEL) operating in the post-saturation regime. We consider practical case of the SASE3 FEL at the European XFEL.
