Fetal brain activity and the free energy principle

Journal of Perinatal Medicine, 2023
Abstract Objectives To study whether the free energy principle can explain fetal brain activity and the existence of fetal consciousness via a chaotic dimension derived using artificial intelligence.

Free Energies and the Dissipation Principle

2011
We present in this chapter an axiomatic formulation of thermodynamics in order to introduce free energies in a very general manner and to prove certain fundamental properties of these quantities. For most of the discussion, no underlying model is assumed, in contrast to the previous chapter.

The free energy principle induces intracellular compartmentalization

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications
Living systems at all scales are compartmentalized into interacting subsystems. This paper reviews a mechanism that drives compartmentalization in generic systems at any scale. It first discusses three symmetries of generic physical interactions in a quantum-theoretic description.

Concerning equilibrium, free energy changes, Le Châtelier's principle

Journal of Chemical Education, 1964
Aqueous KI is added to a solution of CuSO4 in a separatory funnel; adding more CuSO4 demonstrates an equilibrium sift.

Enhanced Saliency Prediction via Free Energy Principle

2019
Saliency prediction can be treated as the activity of human brain. Most saliency prediction methods employ features to determine the contrast of an image area relative to its surroundings. However, only few studies have investigated how human brain activities affect saliency prediction.

The cost of over-intellectualizing the free-energy principle

Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 2020
Abstract This commentary raises a question about the target article's proposed explanation of what goes on when we think through other minds. It highlights a tension between non-mindreading characterizations of everyday social cognition and the individualist, cognitivist assumptions that target article's explanatory proposal inherits from the ...

[The Design Principle of Allostatic Mechanisms: The Free Energy Principle].

Brain and nerve = Shinkei kenkyu no shinpo, 2023
Homeostasis is maintained by neural reflex controls, which attempt to maintain the body's internal organs within a predetermined range. However, when deviations are significant, homeostasis may not be restored by these standard controls. Therefore, a function called allostasis is necessary to maximize the energy efficiency of bodily functions ...

Generalized free-energy principle and emittance growth

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1996
The connection between entropy growth and rms emittance growth in linear accelerators is studied. Emittance growth is divided into two classes: reversible and irreversible depending on the corresponding entropy change. A generalized free‐energy function is shown to act as a driver for phase space evolution and emittance growth.
