ONE DIMENSIONAL COMBUSTION FREE BOUNDARY PROBLEM [PDF]
Summary: A free boundary problem for a parabolic system arising from the mathematical theory of combustion is considered in the one-dimensional case. The existence and uniqueness of the classical solution local in time is obtained by the use of a fixed point theorem.

Qualitative behavior of axial-symmetric solutions of elliptic free boundary problems
axial-symmetric solutions and qualitative geometric properties of the free boundary are compared to those of the fixed boundary for the axial and radial directions. Counterexamples obtained previously by the first author show that our results cannot hold

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Perturbation formula for the two-phase membrane problem
A perturbation formula for the two-phase membrane problem is considered. We perturb the data in the right-hand side of the two-phase equation. The stability of the solution and the free boundary with respect to perturbation in the coefficients and ...

Two finite difference methods for a nonlinear BVP arising in physical oceanography
In this paper we define two finite difference methods for a nonlinear boundary value problem on infinite interval. In particular, we report and compare the numerical results for an ocean circulation model obtained by the free boundary approach and a ...

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

Uniqueness of limiting solution to a strongly competing system
We prove a uniqueness for the positive solution to a strongly competing system of Lotka-Volterra type problem in the limiting configuration, when the competition rate tends to infinity.

A parabolic free boundary problem with Bernoulli type condition on the free boundary [PDF]
Consider the parabolic free boundary problem $$ \Delta u - \partial_t u = 0 \textrm{in} \{u>0\}, |\nabla u|=1 \textrm{on} \partial\{u>0\} . $$ For a realistic class of solutions, containing for example {\em all} limits of the singular perturbation ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.
