Computational Study of the Effect of the Size-Dependent Dielectric Functions of Gold Nanomaterials on Optical Properties

open access: yesAdvances in Condensed Matter Physics
The effect of size on the optical properties of gold nanomaterials has been studied using the theoretical Drude–Sommerfield model. The real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function of bulk as a function of wavelength due to free electron ...

Emittance control in the presence of collective effects in the fermi@elettra free electron laser linac driver

open access: yes, 2013
Recent beam transport experiments conducted on the linac driving the FERMI@Elettra free electron laser (FEL) have provided new insights concerning the transverse emittance degradation due to both coherent synchrotron radiation (CSR) and geometric ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Length of Free Path of Slow Electrons in a Solid Depending on Their Energy

open access: yesУспехи физики металлов, 2006
The main methods of calculation of the inelastic mean free path (IMFP), λ, of inelastically-scattered electrons versus their energy E0 are reviewed. Mechanisms, which influence on the character of λ(E_{0})-dependence of IMFP, are considered for electron ...

Numerical simulation of charged fullerene spectrum

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2019
The mathematical model of the ground state electron spectrum of a charged fullerene is constructed on the basis of the potential of a charged sphere and the spherically symmetric potential of a neutral fullerene, derived in a single-electron self ...

Free-Electron Ring Model of Polyacenes [PDF]

open access: yesProgress of Theoretical Physics, 1956
Electronic energy levels of polyacenes are calculated by assuming their n electrons to move freely Itt a ring of a circumference which is equal to the_ perimeter length of the polyacene molecule. The interaction between n-electrons is assumed to be the long range part of the Coulomb interaction.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...
