S-wave model in electron-atom collisions

open access: yes, 2004
This thesis discusses the theory and presents the numerical solution of the S-wave models of electron-hydrogen and electron-helium scattering. The Convergent Close-Coupling (CCC) method is used to obtain the numerical results.

Free electron model and magnetic susceptibility of aromatic hydrocarbons

open access: yes, 1965
Using a free electron model for the π-electron system in aromatic hydrocarbons the π-electron susceptibility due to Langevin diamagnetism and Van Vleck High frequency para-magnetism (H. F.) have been calculated. The H. F.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Analogy for Drude’s free electron model to promote students’ understanding of electric circuits in lower secondary school

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Physics Education Research, 2014
Aiming at a deep understanding of some basic concepts of electric circuits in lower secondary schools, this work introduces an analogy between the behavior of children playing in a school yard with a central lake, subject to different conditions, rules ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Universal Scaling of Thin Current Sheets

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Thin current sheets (TCSs) with thicknesses about ion Larmor radii are widespread in space. It is important to describe their equilibrium structure allowing them to store and then explosively release the accumulated free energy.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Design of new logic architectures utilizing optimized suspended-gate single-electron transistors

open access: yes, 2010
The operation and performances of the suspended-gate single-electron transistor (SET) are investigated through simulation. The movable gate is 3-D optimized, so that low actuation voltage (0.4 V), fast switching (1 ns), and ultralow pull-in energy (0.015

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Fast Tearing Mode Driven by Demagnetized Electrons

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Recent MMS observations have discovered electron‐scale super‐thin current sheets (STCSs) with a partial electron demagnetization, which distinguishes them from the ion‐scale TCSs traditionally observed by the Cluster mission. Our investigation focuses on
