Electron-phonon interactions and Helmholtz free energy in confined systems: Advancing low-dimensional superconductors for quantum technologies

open access: yesResults in Physics
The thermodynamic and superconducting properties of low-dimensional superconductors are profoundly influenced by electron–phonon interactions, which play a critical role in determining the Helmholtz free energy.

New Aspects of the Antioxidant Activity of Glycyrrhizin Revealed by the CIDNP Technique

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2022
Electron transfer plays a crucial role in ROS generation in living systems. Molecular oxygen acts as the terminal electron acceptor in the respiratory chains of aerobic organisms.

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

(INVITED)Scattering of hot charge carriers in solid solutions of dielectric crystals with substitutional disorder

open access: yesOptical Materials: X, 2022
The spatial distribution of the components that make up the substitutional solid solution is non-uniform. The randomness of substitution leads to the formation of a random potential acting on secondary electrons in the conduction band and holes in the ...

Analysis of Electron Mobility in Inversion-Mode Al2O3/InxGa1-xAs MOSFETs

open access: yes, 2011
The electron mobility in Al2O3/InxGa1-xAs (x = 0.53, 0.65, or 0.75) metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors was analyzed for scattering by oxide charge, as well as interface charge and roughness, and compared with measured transfer ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Free-electron model for mesoscopic force fluctuations in nanowires [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 1998
When two metal electrodes are separated, a nanometer sized wire (nanowire) is formed just before the contact breaks. The electrical conduction measured during this retraction process shows signs of quantized conductance in units of G_0=2e^2/h. Recent experiments show that the force acting on the wire during separation fluctuates, which has been ...

Nonlinear model for thermal effects in free-electron lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In the present work, we extend results of a previous paper [Peter et al., Phys. Plasmas 20, 12 3104 (2013)] and develop a semi-analytical model to account for thermal effects on the nonlinear dynamics of the electron beam in free-electron lasers.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Free electron laser polarization control with interfering crossed polarized fields

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2019
Free electron lasers emit powerful and coherent radiation in a wide wavelength range extending to hard x-rays. This radiation is also characterized by a high degree of polarization that is generally linear and depends on the undulator properties.
