Detecting free-floating planets using water-dependent colour terms in the next generation of infrared space-based surveys [PDF]
The next decade will see two large-scale space-based near-infrared surveys, Euclid and WFIRST. This paper shows that the subtle differences between the filters proposed for these surveys and those from ground-based photometric systems will produce a ...

Protoplanets formed in a marginally gravitationally unstable (MGU) disk by either core accretion or disk instability will be subject to dynamical interactions with massive spiral arms, possibly resulting in inward or outward orbital migration, mergers ...

No large population of unbound or wide-orbit Jupiter-mass planets
Gravitational microlensing is the only method capable of exploring the entire population of free-floating planets down to Mars-mass objects, because the microlensing signal does not depend on the brightness of the lensing object.

CONSTRAINING THE FREQUENCY OF FREE-FLOATING PLANETS FROM A SYNTHESIS OF MICROLENSING, RADIAL VELOCITY, AND DIRECT IMAGING SURVEY RESULTS [PDF]
A microlensing survey by Sumi et al. exhibits an overabundance of short-timescale events (STEs; tE < 2 days) relative to what is expected from known stellar populations and a smooth power-law extrapolation down to the brown dwarf regime.

A microlensing event is mainly used to search for free-floating planets (FFPs). To estimate the FFP mass and distance via the microlensing effect, a microlensing parallax is one of the key parameters.

Characterization of Microlensing Planets with Moderately Wide Separations
In future high-cadence microlensing surveys, planets can be detected through a new channel of an independent event produced by the planet itself. The two populations of planets to be detected through this channel are wide-separation planets and free ...

The impact of Hnrnpl deficiency on transcriptional patterns of developing muscle cells
We performed nanopore whole‐transcriptome sequencing comparing RNA from Hnrnpl‐knockdown versus control C2C12 myoblasts to investigate the contributions of Hnrnpl to muscle development. Our results indicate that Hnrnpl regulates the expression of genes involved with Notch signaling and skeletal muscle, particularly splicing patterns of specific muscle ...

This study presents a 3D representative volume element‐based simulation approach to predict mesoscopic residual stress and strain fields in silicon solid solution‐strengthened ductile cast iron. By modeling phase transformation kinetics with an enhanced Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov model, the effects of varying cooling rates on residual stresses are ...

Optimal Survey Strategies and Predicted Planet Yields for the Korean Microlensing Telescope Network [PDF]
The Korean Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) will consist of three 1.6m telescopes each with a 4 deg^{2} field of view (FoV) and will be dedicated to monitoring the Galactic Bulge to detect exoplanets via gravitational microlensing.

Grinding chips of high‐alloyed steel are prepared to be admixed to a starting powder mixture for laser powder bed fusion. A three‐stage preparation is performed, including washing in acetone, magnetic separation, and ball milling. The addition of 30% of grinding chips to the powder mixture allows the fabrication of dense samples.
