A Gas-Solid Free Boundary Problem for a Compressible Viscous Gas
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 2003A one-dimensional free-boundary problem is formulated to describe a phase transition of solid into compressible viscous gas with a prescribed density jump at the phase transition line. Initial data are found to permit global existence of solutions which are close to a combination of traveling and rarefaction waves.

Turbulence in helium-gas free convection
Physical Review A, 1989Results on a Rayleigh-B\'enard experiment in helium gas at 5 K in a cylindrical cell of aspect ratio 1 are presented. The Rayleigh number spans a range from ${10}^{5}$ to ${10}^{12}$. A large-scale coherent flow is observed via the correlation of two adjacent temperature probes.

Correlation Energy of a Free Electron Gas
Physical Review, 1958The limits of validity of the correlation-energy calculations in the regions of high density, low density, and actual metallic electron densities are discussed. Simple physical arguments are given which show that the high-density calculation of Gell-Mann and Brueckner is valid for ${r}_{s}\ensuremath{\lesssim}1$ while the low-density calculation of ...

THERMODYNAMICS OF A FREE q-FERMION GAS
International Journal of Modern Physics A, 1994We study the thermodynamics of a q-fermion gas for complex values of q on the unit circle. Special emphasis is given to the study of the virial coefficients and the specific heat of this gas. In particular, it is shown that if any state can accommodate up to p q-fermions, then the first p virial coefficients of such a gas are the same as that of a gas

Free and enclosed inertial active gas
Soft Matter, 2023In this work, an inertial active gas in three dimensions made of spherical non-interactive active Brownian particles with both translational and rotational inertia (IABPs) is studied, in both a free and an enclosed scenario.

Investigation of Free Gas in the Peritoneal Cavity
The British Journal of Radiology, 1945The radiological technique for the detection of free gas in the peritoneal cavity is dependent on the situation of such gas and the condition of the patient at the time of the examination. The majority of patients examined are ill—acutely ill, either in the immediate post-operative period or have been admitted as an acute abdominal crisis.

Free carbenes in the interstellar gas
Journal of the Chemical Society, Faraday Transactions, 1993Carbene molecules are a significant trace constituent of the gas in the interstellar medium (and in the expanding shell around at least one star), representing ca. 16% of the molecular species that have been identified in space. The identification of one of the most abundant and widespread interstellar carbenes, the cyclopropenylidene ring, C3H2, is ...

Capturing the sublimity of a free radical gas
Free Radical Research, 1999This paper reviews the work related to nitric oxide (NO) done by the author and his postgraduates and colleagues in the past 7 years in the National University of Singapore. Our work shows that (i) NADPH-d and NO synthase (NOS) are often but not always identical; (ii) NO (as indicated by NADPH-d histochemistry and NOS immunohistochemistry) is generated

The structure of a solid, its composition of atoms, as well as the electronic, optical and lattice properties are essentially determined by the electrons. However, not all electrons of the atoms constituting the solid are involved in the same way. At the beginning of Chap.
