THE FREQUENCY SPACE OF A FREE GROUP [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Algebra and Computation, 2005
We analyze the structure of the frequency spaceQ(F) of a nonabelian free group F = F(a1,…,ak) consisting of all shift-invariant Borel probability measures on ∂F and construct a natural action of Out(F) on Q(F). In particular we prove that for any outer automorphism ϕ of F the conjugacy distortion spectrum of ϕ, consisting of all numbers ‖ϕ(w)‖/‖w ...

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Methylation of kukersite kerogen – estimation of the content of free hydroxyl groups [PDF]

open access: yesOil Shale
Derivatization of the kerogen backbone changes its chemical reactivity profile. In this study, kukersite kerogen was methylated with dimethyl carbonate.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

On analytic exponential functors on free groups

open access: yes
This paper concerns exponential contravariant functors on free groups. We obtain an equivalence of categories between analytic, exponential contravariant functors on free groups and conilpotent cocommutative Hopf algebras.

On normal automorphisms of n-periodic products of finite cyclic groups [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Group Theory, 2013
We prove that each normal automorphism of the$n$-periodic product of cyclic groups of odd order$rge1003$ is inner, whenever $r$ divides $n$.

Near Frattini subgroups of residually finite generalized free products of groups

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2001
Let G=A★HB be the generalized free product of the groups A and B with the amalgamated subgroup H. Also, let λ(G) and ψ(G) represent the lower near Frattini subgroup and the near Frattini subgroup of G, respectively.

DISTORTION IN FREE NILPOTENT GROUPS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Algebra and Computation, 2010
We prove that a subgroup of a finitely generated free nilpotent group F is undistorted if and only if it is a retract of a subgroup of finite index in F.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Cohomology rings of almost-direct products of free groups

open access: yes, 2010
An almost-direct product of free groups is an iterated semidirect product of finitely generated free groups in which the action of the constituent free groups on the homology of one another is trivial. We determine the structure of the cohomology ring of
