Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Counting markedness : a corpus investigation on German free relative constructions

open access: yes, 2004
This paper reports the results of a corpus investigation on case conflicts in German argument free relative constructions. We investigate how corpus frequencies reflect the relative markedness of free relative and correlative constructions, the relative ...

Cross-linguistic variation in modality systems: The role of mood

open access: yesSemantics and Pragmatics, 2010
The St'át'imcets (Lillooet Salish) subjunctive mood appears in nine distinct environments, with a range of semantic effects, including weakening an imperative to a polite request, turning a question into an uncertainty statement, and creating an ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Brain structural and functional correlates of resilience to Bipolar Disorder

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2012
Background: Resilient adaptation can be construed in different ways, but as used here it refers to the adaptive brain changes associated with avoidance of psychopathology despite familiar risk for Bipolar Disorder (BD).

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Transparent free relatives in English

open access: yes, 2008
Transparent free relatives (TFRs) are constituents involving a WH-gap dependency in which the phrase that is predicated of the gap associated with \u27what\u27, not the wh-phrase itself, functions as the syntactic and semantic "nucleus." Previous ...

The Automorphism Groups of Relatively Free Algebras

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 1998
The authors study the automorphisms groups of relatively free algebras having in mind the automorphism groups of relatively free groups. They saw that the results can be formulated by considering relatively free algebras of infinite rank. So let \(\Omega\) be an operator domain. An \(\Omega\)-algebra is a set \(G\) in which for every \(\omega\in\Omega\)

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
