Coherent Optical Free-Space Communications

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications/Coherent Optical Technologies and Applications, 2006
The performance of coherent FSO systems operating within atmospheric are limited by turbulence. The performance statistics are computed from models for the induce index fluctuations, the second order Rytov perturbation method of solution to the stochastic wave equation and an extended form of the Huygens-Fresnel.

Dual wavelength free space optical communications

(CLEO). Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2005., 2005
We present a technique to correct for atmospheric scintillation noise in free space optical communications. Common mode rejection is used to remove co-channel noise, where each channel is transmitted on separate, but closely spaced, wavelengths.

Near-Sun Free-Space Optical Communications from Space

2006 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2006
Free-space optical communications offers expanded data return capacity, from probes distributed throughout the solar system and beyond. Space-borne and Earth-based optical transceivers used for communicating optically, will periodically encounter near-Sun pointing.

MIMO Free-Space Optical Communication

2016
In this chapter, we study multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) free-space optical (FSO) communication systems degraded by atmospheric turbulence, absorption, scattering, diffraction, and misalignment. The employment of multiple transmit/receive apertures are studied as a means to enhance the reliability of FSO links by combating atmospheric turbulence

Free-Space Optical Communications - Standardisation Issues

2018 International Conference on Broadband Communications for Next Generation Networks and Multimedia Applications (CoBCom), 2018
In the meantime, Optical Wireless is a well-established Communication Technology. In this talk, Free Space Optics (FSO) is considered within the focus of regulations and standardisation-bodies for future applications. The FSO-Technology is compared to other Communication Technologies (including wireless technologies, like WLAN and satellite ...

Coding for free space optical communications

LEOS 2008 - 21st Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2008
Free-space optical (FSO) systems that are robust in the presence of atmospheric turbulence are discussed in this invited paper: (i) coded-OFDM, (ii) coded MIMO concept, and (iii) raptor code based FSO systems.

Free-Space Optical Communication Channel Modeling

2015
Free-space optical (FSO) systems have proved as the best technologies for communication and surveillance systems. These systems are merged with other technologies for providing robust applications. In FSO systems, when laser light is transmitted through the atmospheric channel, severe absorption is observed especially because of fog, snow, heavy rain ...
