Hybrid STA With FNN and CNN Models for Robust Channel Estimation in Turbulent FSO and Doppler‐Affected OFDM transmission for LEO Satellite Communication

open access: yesIET Communications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
A hybrid framework of deep learning‐based channel estimation for robust communication in free space optical (FSO)‐based low earth orbit (LEO) satellite system using advanced modulation formats for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission. Simulations demonstrate that STA‐ SRCNN and STA‐DNCNN excel in terrestrial FSO channels (NMSE

Performance Analysis of the LDPC‐Coded Hybrid LQAM‐MPPM for UWOC Systems

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
The effectiveness of LDPC codes in improving the performance of hybrid modulations is discussed, with coded 128‐QAM‐(12, 2) MPPM offering ~6.5 and 5.8 dB code gains at a BER of in strong and moderate turbulence, respectively. These results demonstrate the promise of hybrid modulation with LDPC as a robust and efficient modulation scheme for UWOC ...

Q‐Learning Power Allocation in FSO‐NOMA Networks Against Intelligent Jamming Attacks

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper proposes a reinforcement learning‐based power allocation framework for NOMA‐enabled free‐space optical (FSO) communication systems under intelligent jamming attacks. By employing a Q‐learning algorithm, the transmitter adaptively adjusts power distribution to maximise system throughput and resilience.

Mid‐Infrared Free‐Space Optical Communications: Technologies, Demonstrations and Future Directions

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
Free‐space optical (FSO) communication is increasingly extending beyond the near‐infrared to the mid‐wave infrared (MWIR) and long‐wave infrared (LWIR) regions, which offer reduced turbulence, scattering and absorption for more robust links. This review summarises recent advances in MWIR/LWIR FSO technologies, including quantum cascade lasers, lithium ...

A Tutorial on Quantum Key Distribution Protocols With Interactive Simulation of QBER and SKR Performance Metrics

open access: yesIET Quantum Communication, Volume 7, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
In this tutorial paper, we present a theoretical simulation‐based review of several QKD protocols, such as BB84, Decoy State BB84, Coherent One Way, Differential Phase Shift, and the entanglement‐based BBM92 and E91 protocols. We simulate the Quantum Bit Error Rate and Secret Key Rate of these QKD protocols.

Optimation Free Space Optic (FSO) Design with Kim Model Using Space Diversity

open access: yesJURNAL INFOTEL, 2019
The development of communication services in remote rural areas is difficult to use cable-based systems such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and FTTx. One solution to solve this problem is to use a wireless system such as radio communication. Free Space Optic (FSO) communication system is a better choice compared to radio communication because of the ...

Enhancing Medical Image Security Leveraging Quantum Key Distribution

open access: yesIET Quantum Communication, Volume 7, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper proposes QKD assisted quantum encryption for medical images. BB84 protocol is utilised to generate a secure shared key, which is further enhanced using Henon maps. The logistic map whose parameters are derived from the shared key is employed to generate the permutation sequence for pixel values.
