Taste and Smell Disturbances Associated With Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of General and Family Medicine, Volume 27, Issue 4, July 2026.

The Lipid Droplet–Associated Hydrolase Is Associated With Obesity and Adipose Tissue Inflammation in Children

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 7, Page 1420-1432, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective The lipid droplet–associated hydrolase (LDAH) is a lipid droplet–associated protein with an uncharacterized role in human adipose tissue (AT) and obesity; we aimed to investigate its role in human AT and its relevance for childhood obesity.

Aging and Western Diet Synergistically Impair Hepatic Thyroid Hormone Signaling to Promote Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) in Mice

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 7, July 2026.
Aging and Western diet synergistically impair hepatic thyroid hormone signaling through decreased Dio1 and increased Dio3 activity, depleting intrahepatic T4 and T3 in senescent hepatocytes. This thyroid hormone deficit drives inflammation, fibrosis, and accelerated MASLD progression.

Humanin Mitigates Aβ‐Induced Retinal Pigment Epithelium Injury via AMPK‐Beclin1‐Dependent Mitophagy

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 7, July 2026.
Humanin (HN) enhanced the clearance of Aβ‐accumulated mitochondria in the RPE while preserving retinal function and RPE barrier integrity. HN activated AMP‐activated protein kinase (AMPK), leading to phosphorylation of ULK1 and Beclin1, which promoted the interaction between Beclin1 and Parkin and their translocation to mitochondria.

Are traditional reference ranges adequate for geriatric individuals? An indirect approach to thyroid testing

open access: yesTürk Biyokimya Dergisi
Physiological changes during aging may complicate the interpretation of thyroid function tests in elderly individuals. This study aimed to establish age- and sex-specific indirect reference intervals for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (

Maternal, childhood and adolescent influences on Leydig cell functional capacity and circulating INSL3 concentration in young adults: Importance of childhood infections and body mass index

open access: yesAndrology, Volume 14, Issue 5, Page 1172-1182, July 2026.
Abstract Background The constitutive Leydig cell hormone insulin‐like peptide 3 (INSL3) is considered a good estimate of the adult Leydig cell functional capacity and appears to remain relatively consistent throughout adult male life, only gradually declining into old age.
