Development and External Validation of a Predictive Model of Severe Neonatal Calf Diarrhea in Hanwoo Calves Using Animal, Environmental, and Management Risk Factors

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 39, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Neonatal calf diarrhea accounts for most pre‐weaned calf losses in Hanwoo cattle. A novel predictive model of severe neonatal calf diarrhea will help veterinarians and farmers prevent disease in calves. Hypothesis/Objectives Development and external validation of a simple predictive model for severe neonatal calf diarrhea in Hanwoo ...

Chimerism‐Based Experimental Models for Tolerance Induction in Vascularized Composite Allografts: Cleveland Clinic Research Experience

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
The preclinical experimental models of vascularized composite allografts (VCAs) have been rapidly developed for the assessment of immunomodulatory protocols for clinical application. Recently, researchers have focused on immunomodulatory protocols which overcome the immunologic barrier between the allogeneic donor and recipient and may lead to ...

Bovin freemartinism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019

Effects of Plasma and Hetastarch Administration on Colloid Oncotic Pressure and Coagulation Variables in Dairy Calves and Goats

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 39, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Transfusion with fresh frozen plasma (FFP) or hetastarch 6% (HES) is an option for managing decreased colloid oncotic pressure (COP) associated with hypoproteinemia. The effectiveness of HES compared to plasma has not been reported in calves and goats. Hypothesis Hetastarch increases COP to levels similar to FFP.

Tolerance Induction Strategies in Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation: Mixed Chimerism and Novel Developments

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Since the start of the clinical vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) era over a decade ago this field has witnessed significant developments in both basic and translational research. Transplant tolerance, defined as rejection‐free acceptance of transplanted organs or tissues without long‐term immunosuppression, holds the potential to ...

Anti‐Müllerian Hormone Concentrations Can Be Reliably Determined by a Single Measurement, Irrespective of Cycle, in Synchronised Ewes During Non‐Breeding Season

open access: yesReproduction in Domestic Animals, Volume 60, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Improvement of yield characteristics in animal breeding is important in terms of increasing animal production and sustainability. Fertility is one of the most important yield traits affecting economic gain in sheep breeding. Anti‐Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is widely recognised as a dependable biomarker for assessing ovarian reserves and fertility

Viral Infection: A Potent Barrier to Transplantation Tolerance

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, Volume 2008, Issue 1, 2008., 2008
Transplantation of allogeneic organs has proven to be an effective therapeutic for a large variety of disease states, but the chronic immunosuppression that is required for organ allograft survival increases the risk for infection and neoplasia and has direct organ toxicity.

Supplementary Material for: Disorders of Sex Development Are an Emerging Problem in French Bulldogs: A Description of Six New Cases and a Review of the Literature

open access: yes, 2020
Disorders of sex development (DSD) are a well-known cause of sterility and reduced fertility in dogs. Here, we report on 6 new cases of DSD in French bulldogs diagnosed by us within the last year.

Estradiol action in the female hypothalamo–pituitary–gonadal axis

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 36, Issue 10, October 2024.
Evolution of estradiol action in the hypothalamo–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis of females. Left, early HPG axis at the time of Moore and Price and Hohlweg. Middle, refinements to the axis, including the hypothalamus as the main central neural player and the postulated regions of control for tonic and surge gonadotropin release by Barraclough and Gorski.
