Freezing and Freeze-Drying of Bull Spermatozoa

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1957
The possible dependance of survival upon the time spermatozoa are in contact with the protective substance glycerol, prior to exposure to low temperatures, was investigated. Pretreatment for 5 minutes provided at least as much protection as 18 hours.

Canning, Freezing, and Freeze-Drying

1991
Rice (Oryza sativa) is a staple grain consumed by more than half of the world’s population (Hogan 1977). It is the chief source of calories in Asia and has become more popular in Western countries in recent years (Burns and Gerdes 1985). Common objections to using rice in Western countries include difficulty and length of preparation and established ...

Freeze Drying (Lyophilization) and Freeze Concentration

2009
Freeze drying is the removal of water by sublimation from the frozen state (ice). In this process, the food is first frozen and then subjected to a high vacuum, whereby the water ice evaporates without melting. The water vapor released is condensed on the surface of a condenser at very low temperature.

Freeze-Etching and Freeze-Fracturing

1973
The freeze-etching (or fracturing) technique involves the making of a platinum-carbon replica of the fracture face through frozen cells. This replica is examined in the electron microscope. There are two advantages compared with earlier techniques. Firstly, fixation and dehydration are not necessary and the replica is thus of cells which differ from ...
