Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 1970Abstract 1. 1. Mytilus edulis tolerates freezing to a tissue temperature of −10°C, while Venus mercenaria tolerates only −6°C. 2. 2. In both species, tissues are injured when 64 per cent of cellular water has been removed to form ice.
