South Africa’s freight rail reform: A demand-driven perspective

open access: yesJournal of Transport and Supply Chain Management, 2014
During the 20th century, freight transport in South Africa was employed to attain politicoeconomic ideals, resulting in the overprotection of rail and overregulation of road transport.

BMI‐1 modulation and trafficking during M phase in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The schematic illustrates BMI‐1 phosphorylation during M phase, which triggers its translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. In cycling cells, BMI‐1 functions within the PRC1 complex to mediate H2A K119 monoubiquitination. Following PTC596‐induced M phase arrest, phosphorylated BMI‐1 dissociates from PRC1 and is exported to the cytoplasm via its

The Development of a Freight Distribution Model for Connecting Inter-island Freight Transport

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2015
Inter-island freight transport costs in eastern compared to western Indonesia are relatively high, caused by operator charges for roundtrip fees. In order to make the distribution of freight efficient, the network of freight transport needs to be ...

Urban Goods Movement and Local Climate Action Plans: Assessing Strategies to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Urban Freight Transportation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This report examines how freight transport/goods movement has been addressed in U.S. city climate action planning. Transportation generally is a major contributor of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and freight transport represents a growing component of ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Comparative Analysis of European Examples of Freight Electric Vehicles Schemes—A Systematic Case Study Approach with Examples from Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
E-Mobility is a hot topic, in the public policy area as well as in business and scientific communities. Literature on electric freight transport is still relatively scarce.

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.
