Radio-frequency coupling to plasmas

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1988
A survey of the physics associated with coupling rf power to plasmas is given with emphasis on methods of analysis relevant to applications in the fields of plasma production, processing, and fusion research. The significance of resonant versus nonresonant coupling methods is discussed and specific applications are described where these phenomena ...

Photorefractive pulse coupling in the frequency domain

Optics Letters, 1993
We performed experiments to verify the theory of photorefractive pulse coupling in the frequency domain. In particular, we confirm that the phase added to the diffracted pulse depends quadratically on the relative delay between the two input pulses.

Frequency Enhancement in Coupled Noisy Excitable Elements

Physical Review Letters, 2011
Oscillatory dynamics of coupled excitable FitzHugh-Nagumo elements in the presence of noise is investigated as a function of the coupling strength g. For two such coupled elements, their frequencies are enhanced and will synchronize at a frequency higher than the uncoupled frequencies of each element.

A Coupled-Circuit Frequency Modulator

Proceedings of the IRE, 1944
The circuit developed in this paper uses a condenser microphone to vary the reactance of an oscillator tank circuit. Using a coupled circuit and a tuning inductance across the condenser microphone, a single-tube wide-band frequency modulator was constructed for use on 40 megacycles.

Sleep stage classification with cross frequency coupling

2014 36th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2014
Sleep is a key requirement for an individual's health, though currently the options to study sleep rely largely on manual visual classification methods. In this paper we propose a new scheme for automated offline classification based upon cross-frequency-coupling (CFC) and compare it to the traditional band power estimation and the more recent ...

Optical Frequency Mixing at Coupled Gold Nanoparticles

Physical Review Letters, 2007
We present nonlinear-optical four-wave mixing (4WM) at coupled gold nanoparticles. By decreasing the interparticle distance from large separation to touching contact, the 4WM yield increases by 4 orders of magnitude. The reason for this dramatic enhancement lies in the shift of the localized plasmon resonance to infrared wavelengths as the dimer is ...

Inductive coupled radio frequency plasma bridge neutralizer

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2008
A 13.56MHz radio frequency plasma bridge neutralizer (rf-PBN) for ion thruster applications as well as ion beam surface processing of insulating materials is presented. The energy for the plasma excitation is inductively coupled into the plasma chamber.

An Inductively Coupled Frequency Modulator

Proceedings of the IRE, 1941
The frequency modulator described here allows the engineer to design a frequency-modulated oscillator that has more power output and will operate on a higher fundamental frequency than conventional modulators in use at present. It consists of an inductance, capacitance, and resistance in parallel coupled inductively to the frequency-controlling circuit

Discretization of frequencies in delay coupled oscillators

Physical Review E, 2005
We study the dynamics of two mutually coupled chaotic oscillators with a time delayed coupling. Due to the delay, the allowed frequencies of the oscillators are shown to be discretized. The phenomenon is observed in the case when the delay is much larger than the characteristic period of the solitary uncoupled oscillator.

Strongly coupled intracavity frequency-doubled pulsed lasers

Optics Letters, 2004
Simple expressions for the peak power, pulse energy, and pulse length of strongly coupled intracavity frequency-doubled lasers are presented. For nonlinear coupling values that correspond to many common systems, these expressions agree well with the results of numerical integration of the rate equations.
