Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A High-Temperature and Frequency-Reconfigurable Multilayer Frequency Selective Surface Using Liquid Metal

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
A high-temperature and frequency-reconfigurable multilayer frequency selective surface (FSS) based on liquid metal is proposed in this work. After construction of a multilayer dielectric cavity with specific dielectric-shaped pillars and the injection of

Self-pulsing dynamics in a cavity soliton laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The dynamics of a broad-area vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) with frequency-selective feedback supporting bistable spatial solitons is analyzed experimentally and theoretically. The transient dynamics of a switch-on of a soliton induced by

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Enhanced sensing and conversion of ultrasonic Rayleigh waves by elastic metasurfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Recent years have heralded the introduction of metasurfaces that advantageously combine the vision of sub-wavelength wave manipulation, with the design, fabrication and size advantages associated with surface excitation.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Melanism as a potential thermal benefit in eastern fox squirrels (Sciurus niger) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Melanistic fox squirrels (Sciurus niger) have expanded westward and increased in frequency in the Omaha, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, metropolitan areas.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Infrared transparent frequency selective surface based on metallic meshes

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2014
This paper presents an infrared transparent frequency selective surface (ITFSS) based on metallic meshes. In this ITFSS structure, periodic cross-slot units are integrated on square metallic meshes empowered by coating and UV-lithography.

"Reconfigurable Plasma Frequency Selective Surface "

open access: yesProceedings of the 2025 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory - URSI EMTS 2025
This paper presents single- and double-layer reconfigurable frequency selective surfaces (FSS) for high-power microwave (HPM) shielding, utilizing plasma as an active element. Unlike conventional FSS, plasma-based design enables tunable filtering by adjusting plasma density or shape, reducing the need for extensive structural modifications.
