Efficacy and safety of once‐weekly insulins in type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Once‐weekly (OW) insulins represent a promising strategy to reduce injection burden and improve adherence in type 2 diabetes management. This meta‐analysis aimed to quantify pooled effect sizes for key biological and clinical outcomes, integrating new findings from the five large trials published in 2025.

Weight Loss as a Determinant of Histological Improvement in Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease in People With Obesity. A Systematic Review and Network Meta‐Analysis of Randomised Clinical Trials

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is closely linked to obesity and insulin resistance, and sustained weight loss is associated with histological improvement. Whether different obesity‐management modalities exert weight‐independent hepatic effects remains uncertain.

The new poor law and the health of the population of England and Wales

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, EarlyView.
Abstract We estimate the impact of reductions in poor law expenditure on rural life expectancy and mortality rates in England and Wales following the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act. Given the scale of cuts imposed, our estimates imply 8–10 per cent increases in mortality at ages 1–4 years and 2–4 per cent falls in rural expectation of life at birth.

Parameter Estimation in Two-Dimensional Biexponential Magnetic Resonance Relaxometry: A Case-Study Comparison of Frequentist and Bayesian Approaches

open access: yesConcepts in Magnetic Resonance: Part A, Bridging Education and Research
In this paper, we contrast frequentist and Bayesian approaches to parameter estimation for a magnetic resonance (MR) relaxometry signal model which takes the form of a two-dimensional biexponential decay.

Post‐marketing safety of CGRP monoclonal antibodies and gepants: A systematic review of spontaneous reporting system data

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP) inhibitors, including monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and small‐molecule antagonists (gepants), have transformed migraine treatment. Although clinical trials established their efficacy and initial safety, post‐marketing surveillance is essential for understanding their real‐world safety profile in ...

When in Doubt, Tax More Progressively? Uncertainty and Progressive Income Taxation

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study the optimal income tax problem under parameter uncertainty about household preferences and wage dynamics. We derive conditions characterizing how such uncertainty affects optimal tax policy. To quantify the effect, we estimate a life‐cycle model using US data and a Bayesian approach.

Exploring Acoustic Overlap in Second Language Vowel Productions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Linguistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the alignment of vowel categories between second language (L2) learners and first language (L1) speakers of the target language, as well as potential overlaps between adjacent vowels in terms of formant frequencies and duration.

Variance Matrix Priors for Dirichlet Process Mixture Models With Gaussian Kernels

open access: yesInternational Statistical Review, EarlyView.
Summary Bayesian mixture modelling is widely used for density estimation and clustering. The Dirichlet process mixture model (DPMM) is the most popular Bayesian non‐parametric mixture modelling approach. In this manuscript, we study the choice of prior for the variance or precision matrix when Gaussian kernels are adopted.

Bayesian views of generalized additive modelling

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Generalized additive models (GAMs) are a frequently used, flexible framework applied to many problems in statistical ecology. They are commonly used to incorporate smooth effects into models via splines, including spatial components in species ...

Handling Out‐of‐Sample Areas to Estimate the Unemployment Rate at Local Labour Market Areas in Italy

open access: yesInternational Statistical Review, EarlyView.
Summary Unemployment rate estimates for small areas are used to efficiently support the distribution of services and the allocation of resources, grants and funding. A Fay–Herriot type model is the most used tool to obtain these estimates. Under this approach out‐of‐sample areas require some synthetic estimates. As the geographical context is extremely
