In-depth tanscriptomic analysis on giant freshwater prawns. [PDF]
Gene discovery in the Malaysian giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) has been limited to small scale data collection, despite great interest in various research fields related to the commercial significance of this species.

Safety Analysis of Freshwater Fish
The results presented in this paper demonstrate that the microbial population in the hydroecosystem has seasonal variations. The bacterial contamination of water and fish in November was 140 and 11 times less than in July respectively. It was found that fish caught in natural reservoirs in the autumn-winter period had different dynamics in the ...

Fluorescence-assisted image analysis of freshwater microalgae [PDF]
We exploit a property of microalgae-that of their ability to autofluoresce when exposed to epifluorescence illumination-to tackle the problem of detecting and analysing microalgae in sediment samples containing complex scenes. We have added fluorescence excitation to the hardware portion of our microalgae image processing system.

A meta-analysis of the freshwater trophic cascade. [PDF]
The generality of the trophic cascade has been an intensely debated topic among ecologists. We conducted a meta-analysis of 54 separate enclosure and pond experiments that measured the response of the zooplankton and phytoplankton to zooplanktivorous fish treatments.

Salmoniformes: marine or freshwater origin?
A long discussion about either marine or freshwater genesis of salmonids is still relevant today. So far, no convincing evidence of any point of view has been found.

Freshwater Fishes of Central America: Distribution, Assessment, and Major Threats
Central America contains a rich diversity of freshwater habitats that support more than 600 species of freshwater fishes. However, despite several perceived threats to the integrity of the freshwater habitats throughout the region, a formal analysis of ...

Fatty Acid Oxidation in Zebrafish Adipose Tissue Is Promoted by 1α,25(OH)2D3
1α,25(OH)2D3 (vitamin D3) is crucial for mineral homeostasis in mammals, but the precise effects of 1α,25(OH)2D3 in adipose tissue remain to be clarified in vivo. The initial 25-hydroxylation is catalyzed by liver microsomal cytochrome P450 2R1 (CYP2R1),

A comparative analysis of metacommunity types in the freshwater realm
AbstractMost metacommunity studies have taken a direct mechanistic approach, aiming to model the effects of local and regional processes on local communities within a metacommunity. An alternative approach is to focus on emergent patterns at the metacommunity level through applying the elements of metacommunity structure (EMS;Oikos, 97, 2002, 237 ...

Panbiogeographical analysis of Costa Rican freshwater fishes
Track analysis and Parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE) were performed to analyze the distribution pattern of Costa Rican freshwater fishes. A basic matrix (presence/absence) was prepared using the distribution of 77 freshwater fish. The data were analyzed with CLIQUE software in order to find generalized tracks (cliques).
