The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the karst-dwelling crab, Terrapotamon thungwa (Crustacea: Brachyura: Potamidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2022
Terrapotamon thungwa is a new species of terrestrial long-legged crab discovered in a karst landscape of southern Thailand. Here, we report the first complete mitochondrial genome of this crab species.

Sexual Disruption in the Freshwater Crab (Geothelphusa dehaani) [PDF]

open access: yesIntegrative and Comparative Biology, 2005
To clarify the effect of environmental endocrine disruptors on the induction of secondary sexual characteristics in wild animals, we observed 1,527 male and 1,847 female specimens of sexually mature Japanese freshwater crabs, Geothelphusa dehaani, collected at 12 sample points from 10 rivers in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.

First record of a potamid crab (Decapoda: Brachyura) from Odisha State, India [PDF]

open access: yesNauplius, 2023
Freshwater crabs of the family Potamidae Ortmann, 1896, have so far not been recorded in the state of Odisha in India. We report for the first time a potamid crab, Acanthopotamon martensi (Wood-Mason, 1875), from Odisha.

Freshwater crab origins—Laying Gondwana to rest [PDF]

open access: yesZoologischer Anzeiger - A Journal of Comparative Zoology, 2011
We review the available data on the phylogeny, palaeontology and divergence time estimation of primary freshwater crabs in relation to a hypothesized Gondwanan origin of these brachyurans, as postulated by some workers in recent decades. Known phylogenetic relationships within the Old World freshwater crabs do not correspond to the successive ...

Evolutionary History of True Crabs (Crustacea: Decapoda: Brachyura) and the Origin of Freshwater Crabs [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology and Evolution, 2014
Crabs of the infra-order Brachyura are one of the most diverse groups of crustaceans with approximately 7,000 described species in 98 families, occurring in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial habitats. The relationships among the brachyuran families are poorly understood due to the high morphological complexity of the group.
