Bacterial Microbiome Composition and Functional Potentials Across Digestive Regions of Wild New Zealand Abalone (Haliotis iris)

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abalone are valuable commercial marine gastropods, supporting both aquaculture and fishery markets. An important ecological aspect of their survival and physiological performance in a given habitat is a complex and balanced symbiotic relationship with microbes in their digestive system.

Metabolic Dynamics of Central Carbon Pathways in Green‐Lipped Mussels under Heat Stress and Subsequent Recovery

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 1, March 2026.
Green‐lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) aquaculture is vulnerable to environmental changes, which are increasingly being studied to pinpoint physiological, economic and ecological threats. This study utilised a targeted liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry metabolomics approach, focusing on the central carbon metabolism, to examine the metabolic ...

Using RIVPACS for studies on conservation and biodiversity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Invertebrate conservation relies not only on public support and political will, but also on possessing an adequate understanding of the distribution and ecology of invertebrate species and communities.

Pollution to Solution: Understanding and Addressing Microplastic Contamination in the Environment

open access: yesEnvironmental Quality Management, Volume 35, Issue 3, Spring 2026.
ABSTRACT In general, plastic pollution results from the unintentional release of macroplastic materials into the environment as well as the deliberate production and usage of small plastic particles (micro‐ and nano‐sized plastic particles) in a variety of consumer products micro and nanoplastics in filtrate freshwater and marine environments because ...

Seasonal variation in wild pig (Sus scrofa) diet revealed by DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, Volume 50, Issue 1, March 2026.
Using DNA metabarcoding of fecal samples, we investigated the diet of wild pigs at an extensive bottomland hardwood forest ecosystem within Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge in Southern Arkansas. We found that wild pig diet was highly diverse and included at least 74 plant families and 106 genera and 23 species of vertebrates.

Potential Impacts of Climate Interventions on Marine Ecosystems

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abstract Rising global temperatures pose significant risks to marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and fisheries. Recent comprehensive assessments suggest that large‐scale mitigation efforts to limit warming are falling short, and all feasible future climate projections, including those that represent optimistic emissions reductions, exceed the Paris ...
