Two‐Dimensional Transition Metal Dichalcogenides Properties Enhanced by Nano‐ and Micro‐Scale Shape Control

open access: yesMetalMat, EarlyView.
This review explores current strategies for shaping two‐dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) beyond their planar form. It highlights how strain engineering, nanopatterning, and growth on complex substrates modulate their mechanical, optical, and electronic properties.

Predicting Infrared Optical Properties of Materials Using Machine Learning Interatomic Potentials

open access: yesMaterials Genome Engineering Advances, EarlyView.
This work proposes a new fast computing framework for infrared reflectance spectra, MTP‐FIRE, based on machine learning potential, which can achieve the same accuracy as the existing first‐principles calculation, but can be two orders of magnitude faster on average.

Superimposed Sacrificial Texturing to Enhance the Optical Performance in Thin‐Film Solar Cells

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
Sacrificial texturing method using controlled etching of undoped zinc oxide and indium‐doped tin oxide generates microscale and nanoscale textures on glass. Roughness on two different scales is superimposed to create a new texture capable of broad‐spectrum scattering, which is utilised in thin‐film silicon solar cells to enhance optical performance ...

High‐Mobility and Low Carrier Concentration Transparent Conducting Oxide Rear Contact for Bifacial CIGS Solar Cells

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
This study investigates high‐mobility, low carrier concentration (CC) transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) as back contacts in bifacial Cu (In, Ga)Se2 (CIGS) solar cells. These TCOs enhance rear‐side light absorption in CIGS and external quantum efficiency, improving overall performance by offering high transparency, low reflectance, and maintaining ...

Correlated X‐Ray and Electron Microscopies of a Single Biphasic GaAs Nanowire

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Nano‐focused scanning X‐ray diffraction microscopy at a synchrotron light source, combined with transmission electron microscopy, reveals a clear correlation between the nanoscale distribution of cubic and hexagonal segments in a GaAs nanowire with subtle variations in inter‐reticular spacing, bending, and twisting.

Strategic Spatial Segregation in Silicon Photoelectrodes: Decoupling Catalytic and Optical Functions for High‐Efficiency Solar Water Splitting

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
A novel spatial segregation strategy for silicon photoelectrodes is demonstrated, where catalyst wires surrounded by tapered microwires effectively decouple competing optical and catalytic requirements. This architectural innovation enables optimal light absorption and catalytic activity while maintaining efficient charge transport, achieving 96.5 ...

Impact of substrate curvature on grazing‐incidence small‐angle X‐ray scattering signal: theory and example of Ag thin‐film growth

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, EarlyView.
The paper formally addresses the influence of the substrate curvature and size on the grazing‐incidence small‐angle X‐ray scattering (GISAXS) signal. Using the established theory, GISAXS can be combined with substrate‐curvature‐based stress measurements, which is demonstrated on the example of Ag thin‐film growth.Grazing‐incidence small‐angle X‐ray ...
