ABSTRACT This article evaluates the evidence for sentience – the capacity to have feelings – in cephalopod molluscs: octopus, cuttlefish, squid, and nautilus. Our framework includes eight criteria, covering both whether the animal's nervous system could support sentience and whether their behaviour indicates sentience.

Friction Induced Brake Vibrations
Volume 6B: 18th Biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2001Abstract This paper deals with friction induced brake vibrations showing frequencies above 1 kHz and a narrow bandwidth. This phenomenon is usually called ‘brake squeal’. After analyzing squeal excitation mechanisms, a rigid body brake model displaying the main features of a floating caliper disc brake is presented.
