Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Network-Configurations of Dynamic Friction Patterns

open access: yes, 2012
The complex configurations of dynamic friction patterns-regarding real time contact areas- are transformed into appropriate networks. With this transformation of a system to network space, many properties can be inferred about the structure and dynamics ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Macro and micro structural responses of dissimilar TC4/TC17 titanium alloy joints in linear friction welding and post-welding heat treatment processes and their effects on tensile and fatigue performance

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The heterogeneous TC4 (Ti–6Al–4V)/TC17 (Ti–5Al–2Sn–2Zr–4Mo–4Cr) joint, formed by linear friction welding (LFW) and post-weld treatment, shows significant potential for blisk manufacturing in aircraft engines.

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Abnormal fracture of 7085 high strength aluminum alloy thick plate joint via friction stir welding

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
7xxx series high-strength aluminum alloy joints by friction stir welding (FSW) generally fracture in the heat affected zone (HAZ), i.e. the lowest hardness zone (LHZ) during tensile test. However, the experiment results of this study indicate that defect-

Bloch oscillations in one-dimensional spinor gas

open access: yes, 2009
A force applied to a spin-flipped particle in a one-dimensional spinor gas may lead to Bloch oscillations of particle's position and velocity. The existence of Bloch oscillations crucially depends on the viscous friction force exerted by the rest of the ...

Tribological Performance of 60NiTi Alloy Under Varying Contact Conditions and Elevated Temperatures in Linear Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the tribological response of 60NiTi alloy under dry, water‐lubricated and high‐temperature conditions. The alloy exhibits decreasing wear volume and friction with increasing temperature due to the formation of protective oxide layers. The work clarifies dominant wear mechanisms and demonstrates the suitability of 60NiTi for high‐
