MARKET FRICTIONS, SAVINGS BEHAVIOR, AND PORTFOLIO CHOICE
Macroeconomic Dynamics, 1997We examine a decision theoretic model of portfolio choice in which investors face income risk that is not directly insurable. We consider the sensitivity of savings and portfolio allocation rules to different assumptions about utility, the stochastic process for income and asset returns, and market frictions (transactions costs and short-sale ...

Frictional behavior of commercial graphites
Carbon, 1974Abstract Coefficient of friction of commerical grades of polycrystalline graphites against deoxidized high phosphorus copper has been measured in an inert atmosphere at 10−5 mm Hg pressure. Graphites with large particles have a coefficient of friction of 0·48 at room temperature and of 0·35 at about 1000°C. Finer particle sized graphites have a lower

Essential Friction: Error-Control in Organizational Behavior
1993In the physical world, interaction without friction is nearly inconceivable. The most elaborate mechanisms would be required to pick up a bottle, set a table, drive a car, or walk to the door. Objects set in motion, whether pencils, mice, feet, automobiles, or trains, would slide freely until arrested or deflected by collision with another object ...
