Friction coefficients and grasp synthesis
2013 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2013We propose a new concept called friction sensitivity which measures how susceptible a specific grasp is to changes in the underlying friction coefficients. We develop algorithms for the synthesis of stable grasps with low friction sensitivity and for the synthesis of stable grasps in the case of small friction coefficients.

Skin-friction coefficient is analyzed with consideration of variable physical properties. The skin velocity gradient is the only one unknown variable for evaluation of the skin-friction coefficient. Systems of numerical solutions on the skin velocity gradient are obtained with consideration of variable physical properties.

THE ordinary static friction apparatus with one mass m hanging over a pulley and connected to another mass M resting on the friction board may be used to determine the kinetic coefficient. Let m be more than sufficient just to move M, and let h be the vertical height over which m is allowed to accelerate M; then, if x is the extra distance along the ...

SummaryA summary is presented of information collected on coefficients of friction (rolling and sliding) between rubber tyres and road or runway surfaces. Nearly all the data collected are from tests on automobile tyres and are limited to speeds of about 40 m.p.h.

Frictional coefficient during flossing of teeth
Dental Materials, 2018This in-vitro study aimed to develop a technique to measure the frictional forces and determine the frictional coefficient (μ) associated with the rubbing of dental floss against teeth. Incorrect flossing technique and the etiology of grooves at the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) of proximal area of teeth has long been a controversial topic.

Robust Estimation of Road Frictional Coefficient
IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2011Vehicle active safety systems stabilize the vehicle by controlling tire forces. They work well only when the commanded tire forces are within the friction limit. Therefore, knowledge of the tire/road friction is important to improve the performance of vehicle active safety systems.

Direct measurements of colloidal friction coefficients
Physical Review E, 2001The time-independent hydrodynamic forces operating between two hard spheres were studied as a function of the interparticle separation r. Two colloids were positioned a distance r apart using a dual-beam optical tweezer similar to that described by Meiners and Quake [Phys. Rev. Lett. 82, 2211 (1999)].

Friction coefficients in membranes
Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry and Interfacial Electrochemistry, 1972Summary In 1951 Mazur and Overbeek showed that membrane permeation phenomena can be treated by thermodynamics of irreversible processes. Onsager's reciprocal relations give rise to relations between quantities measurable in different permeation experiments.
