Identification and Compensation of Friction

2000
In this chapter we are going to show an application example for the method of a systematic intelligent observer design presented in chapter 5. For a feed drive of a tool machine with unknown nonlinear friction a linear model is derived and a nonlinear observer is designed for the identification of the friction characteristic.

Friction: experimental determination, modeling and compensation

Proceedings. 1988 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003
The friction behavior of a brush-type-DC-servomotor-driven mechanism with gearing is explored. The standard kinetic plus viscous friction model is found to describe the dominant friction behavior. In addition, a dependence of friction on position is identified and negative velocity dependence is observed at low velocities. A friction model is developed

Friction compensation in the presence of flexibility

Proceedings of the 1998 American Control Conference. ACC (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36207), 1998
An adaptive state feedback control scheme is developed for noncanonical form systems with unknown parameters, by employing static state feedback for pole placement and dynamic output feedback for parameter adaptation. The developed control scheme does not need a restrictive state space model matching condition for an adaptive state feedback design.

Robust digital friction compensation

Control Engineering Practice, 1998
Abstract Even though the nonlinear compensator proposed by Southward, et al. can guarantee the closed-loop stability for stick-slip friction systems in continuous-time control, applying this to digital control systems may often generate a limit cycle response in the vicinity of a reference position because of the inherent time delay of sample-and ...

Control Techniques for Friction Compensation

2000
Friction is a natural phenomenon that affects almost all motion. It has been the subject of extensive studies for centuries, with the main objectives being the design of effective lubricating processes and the understanding of the mechanisms of wear. Whereas friction effects at moderate velocities are somewhat predictable, it is the effect of friction ...

Friction Compensation in Servo-Drives

2003
Friction is detrimental to the performance of a number of systems, specifically those demanding ultra-accurate positioning. Some debilitating effects of friction include non-zero steady-state errors in position and discontinuity in the velocity leading to performance degradation, limit cycles, or instability.
