Static coefficient test method and apparatus [PDF]
The static coefficient of friction between contacting surfaces of a plurality of bodies is determined by applying a load to the bodies in a direction normal to the contacting surfaces. Opposite ends of a flexible filament are connected to a load cell and

On the Coefficient of Friction and Adequate Tightening Force for Screw Threads
In order to give adequate tightening force for a bolt joint, sometimes a torque wrench is used. The objects of the present paper are to find the true value of coefficient of friction between bolt and nut and to estimate the adequate pre-fastening force which is necessary to decide what torque indication should be given to the torque wrench.

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

Friction is a considerable boundary condition in aluminum alloy hot extrusion. In this study, ball-on-disc friction tests at temperatures of 25–500 °C were performed to equivalently simulate the interface tribological behaviors between Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy ...

Friction Characteristics of Post-Tensioned Tendons of Full-Scale Structures Based on Site Tests
In the design of prestressing concrete structures, the friction characteristics between strands and channels have an important influence on the distribution of prestressing force, which can be considered comprehensively by curvature and swing friction ...

Sliding without slipping under Coulomb friction: opening waves and inversion of frictional force
An elastic layer slides on a rigid flat governed by Coulomb's friction law. We demonstrate that if the coefficient of friction is high enough, the sliding localizes within stick-slip pulses, which transform into opening waves propagating at intersonic ...

Finding the coefficient of rolling friction using a pericycloidal pendulum
The paper presents a method of establishing the coefficient of rolling friction by the study of the damped motion of a pericycloidal pendulum. The pericycloid is the curve described by a point belonging to a mobile circle, which is in pure rolling around
