Combined Effect of Microstructure, Surface Energy, and Adhesion Force on the Friction of PVA/Ferrite Spinel Nanocomposites

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
Nanocomposite films based on spinel ferrite (Mg0.8Zn0.2Fe1.5Al0.5O4) in a PVA matrix were obtained. An increase in the spinel concentration to 10 wt.% caused an avalanche-like rise in roughness due to the formation of nanoparticle agglomerates.

Atomic-Scale Friction Studies on Single-Crystal Gallium Arsenide Using Atomic Force Microscope and Molecular Dynamics Simulation

open access: yesNanomanufacturing and Metrology, 2021
This paper provides a fresh perspective and new insights into nanoscale friction by investigating it through molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and atomic force microscope (AFM) nanoscratch experiments. This work considered gallium arsenide, an important

Preparation and cutting performance of nano-scaled Al2O3-coated micro-textured cutting tool prepared by atomic layer deposition

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2021
Al2O3 nano-scaled coating was prepared on micro-textured YT5 cemented carbide cutting tools by atomic layer deposition ALD. The effect of Al2O3 nano-scaled coating, with and without combined action of texture, on the cutting performance was studied by ...

Handling Characteristics of Mems-Tweezers with Contact Surface Fabricated by Deep-Rie

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2010
Methods for enhancing the gripping ability of microtweezers are examined in terms of friction force. Two aspects are investigated experimentally. One is a method for increasing the coefficient of friction of the handling part of the microtweezers.

Characterising the friction coefficient between rubber O-rings and a rigid surface under extreme pressures

open access: yesPolymer Testing, 2021
Previous research into the friction behaviour of elastomers has typically focused on the effects of velocity, contact pressure, counter surface and lubrication on the coefficient of friction.

Effects of Rosin Powder Application on the Frictional Behavior Between a Finger Pad and Baseball

open access: yesFrontiers in Sports and Active Living, 2020
Rosin powder, which is composed of magnesium carbonate powder and pine resin, is often used as a grip-enhancing agent in baseball pitching. However, the effect of rosin powder on friction at the baseball–human finger interface remains unclear. This study

Mobility and stochastic resonance in spatially inhomogeneous system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The mobility of an overdamped particle, in a periodic potential tilted by a constant external field and moving in a medium with periodic friction coefficient is examined.

Development of the high precision measurement device of static friction characteristics between surfaces at the fixed coupling section

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
Mechanical systems have many joints within. It is well known that the parameters such as contact stiffness, static friction coefficient, kinetic friction coefficient and attenuation coefficient affect static, kinetic, thermal and motion characteristic of

Wall slip of complex fluids: interfacial friction or slip length? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Using a dynamic Surface Force Apparatus, we demonstrate that the notion of slip length used to describe the boundary flow of simple liquids, is not appropriate for viscoelastic liquids.

Determination of the optimal strength of contact interaction of the tool and the part during finishing-hardening treatment by diamond smoothing

open access: yesВесці Нацыянальнай акадэміі навук Беларусі: Серыя фізіка-тэхнічных навук, 2020
The main factors of the process of diamond smoothing are considered in the work: the force of the contact interaction of the tool and the part in the deformation zone and the friction on the contact surface of the part and the smoother.
