Granular Matter, 2014
The case of a cylindrical container filled with granular material is a basic situation where the presence of the cylindrical wall induces horizontal pressure and hence, shearing forces (caused by friction between the container wall and the granular bed).

Evaluation of Coated Top Foil Bearings: Dry Friction, Drag Torque, and Dynamic Force Coefficients
Volume 7B: Structures and Dynamics, 2018Despite their many advantages, bump-type foil bearings (BFBs) have issues of dry-friction during sliding contact at rotor start/stop cycles. To prevent premature wear of both shaft and the BFB, the proper selection and application of a coating on the top foil is of importance to ensure bearing long life. This thesis presents measurements characterizing

The frictional properties of spun-cast films of polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) have been characterized using friction force microscopy (FFM). In air, the friction-load relationship was found to obey Johnson-Kendall-Roberts mechanics, but under ethanol, it was found to fit Amontons' Law.

Abstract The vertical granular drag force on objects held stationary in a moving bed of nickel pellets with diameters in the range 1–10 mm has been measured and compared with Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations. Experiments were carried out with horizontal wooden rods, and horizontal and vertical thin plates made of mild steel or Teflon.

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2011
Abstract Fatigue failure of steel connections is a well-known failure mechanism, especially for structures which sustain heavy cyclic loads like steel bridges. Reliable determination of stress intensity factors (SIFs) for cracks in bolted joints is required to evaluate their safety and fatigue life.

[Research on ground reaction forces and utilized coefficient of friction of turning gait].
Sheng wu yi xue gong cheng xue za zhi = Journal of biomedical engineering = Shengwu yixue gongchengxue zazhi, 2018Utilized coefficient of friction(UCOF), which is calculated with ground reaction forces(GRF), is an effective factor to predict the possibility of slip. For researching the UCOF values of different turning strategies and then predicting the possibility of slip, this study selected 10 healthy young men to perform straight walking and 60° and 90°turning ...
