Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

The Effect of Bubbles on Particle Migration in Non-Newtonian Fluids

open access: yesSeparations, 2021
The movement of the gas–liquid interface caused by the movement of the bubble position will have an impact on the starting conditions for particle migration.

General contact mechanics theory for randomly rough surfaces with application to rubber friction

open access: yes, 2015
We generalize the Persson contact mechanics and rubber friction theory to the case where both surfaces have surface roughness. The solids can be rigid, elastic or viscoelastic, and can be homogeneous or layered.

Recent Milestones in Unraveling the Full-Field Structure of Dynamic Shear Cracks and Fault Ruptures in Real-Time: From Photoelasticity to Ultrahigh-Speed Digital Image Correlation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The last few decades have seen great achievements in dynamic fracture mechanics. Yet, it was not possible to experimentally quantify the full-field behavior of dynamic fractures, until very recently.

Contact mechanics applied to the machining of thin rings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Precision machining of thin rings is of key importance in the performance of many mechanical components such as bearings, rings, turbines, etc. An important factor to take into account is to know the influence of the clamping forces values at different ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Static and Dry Friction due to Multiscale Surface Roughness

open access: yes, 2008
It is shown on the basis of scaling arguments that a disordered interface between two elastic solids will quite generally exhibit static and "dry friction" (i.e., kinetic friction which does not vanish as the sliding velocity approaches zero), because of

Shear Flows of Rapidly Flowing Granular Materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Shear flows of granular materials are studied in an open channel. The wall shear is calculated from an open channel momentum equation which includes the density variations in the flow.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

2D granular flows with the $\mu(I)$ rheology and side walls friction: a well balanced multilayer discretization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present here numerical modelling of granular flows with the $\mu(I)$ rheology in confined channels. The contribution is twofold: (i) a model to approximate the Navier-Stokes equations with the $\mu(I)$ rheology through an asymptotic analysis.
