Thread Friction Torque in Bolted Joints

Analysis of Bolted Joints, 2004
In this paper, formulas are developed for the calculation of the effective thread friction radius in fasteners, in order to determine the thread friction torque component. Results provided by these formulas are compared with those given by current practice that uses the average value of the minor and major thread radii. It is well known that the torque-

Charnley low frictional torque arthroplasty: clinical developments

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 2005
Early on in his research into total hip replacement Charnley realized he was facing two fundamental problems: wear and component fixation. His theoretic ideas, put into practice as attempts at solutions of clinical problems, evolved over several years and stages. Having studied lubrication of natural joints Charnley came to the conclusion that boundary,

Limit Torque for a Frictional Joint*

Mechanics of Structures and Machines, 1996
ABSTRACT A friction limit moment (torque) is derived for a one-bolt, two-member structural joint. Once the structural load reaches the limit moment, the frictional resistance in the joint is overcome and relative rotation of the structural members can occur.

Frictional torque in ferrofluids

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1992
Abstract In ferrofluids, a nonequilibrium vorticity Ω ≠ frbuilt|1/2 rot v can exist under stationary conditions, leading to a mechanism of rotational friction unknown to the physics of normal liquids. Though the basic principle of this phenomenon is well understood, it has not yet been possible to experimentally determine the coefficient of ...

The frictional torque in externally pressurized bearings

Tribology International, 1974
Abstract The total frictional torque in an externally pressurized bearing consists of two parts, one being that predicted from the Petroff formula and the other being associated with the change in the angular momentum of the lubricant. The analysis is fully confirmed by experiments with an air-lubricated journal bearing. It is shown that if all other

Charnley low-frictional torque arthroplasty

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 2009
Of the 11 054 Charnley low-frictional torque arthroplasties carried out at our hospital between 1962 and 1977, 110 (94 patients) had a minimum follow-up of 30 years with a mean of 32.3 years (30.0 to 40.5). The mean age of the patients at operation was 43.3 years (17.0 to 65.0) and 75.7 years (51.0 to 97.0) at follow-up. Overall, 90% of hips (99) were
