Frictional torque on a rotating disc
European Journal of Physics, 2012Resistance to motion often includes a dry frictional term independent of the speed of an object and a fluid drag term varying linearly with speed in the viscous limit. (At higher speeds, quadratic drag can also occur.) Here, measurements are performed for an aluminium disc mounted on bearings that is given an initial twist and allowed to spin until it ...

Frictional Torque of an Axial Magnetic Suspension
Nature, 1937A VERTICAL needle of iron suspended in vacuo by the co-axial field of a solenoid theoretically may have infinitesimal frictional torque against axial rotation. The purpose of the present note is to report an observed value of this frictional torque.

Variation of rolling element bearing friction torque
SPIE Proceedings, 2008The statistical characteristics of the rolling element bearing friction torque are analyzed to find its evolvement law, via the experiment on the friction torque of two kinds of the bearings code-named HKTA and HKTB under the condition of different rotational speeds.

Frictional Torque Transfer Behaviors of Friction Pads in Wet Clutch Engagement
Volume 15: Advances in Multidisciplinary Engineering, 2015For stable frictional torque transfer, wet clutch pads have the functional requirements of a high traction and a low wear rate with positive μ-V frictional characteristics. However, because of the intrinsic negative μ-V frictional characteristics of a friction material that has a static friction coefficient greater than its kinetic friction coefficient,

Frictional Torque of Needle Roller Thrust Bearings
Tribology Transactions, 2008In this study, the frictional torque of a needle roller thrust bearing was investigated theoretically and experimentally. In order to evaluate the torque, the roller motion of the bearing was explained regarding the condition that the energy loss generated at the portion where the roller comes in contact with the raceway becomes minimum.

Active stick control using frictional torque compensation
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2005Abstract An active stick which has variable force-feel characteristics is developed. A combined position and force control strategy is mechanized by using a 2-axis built-in force sensor and LVDT. The 2-axis force sensor, which measures the stick force felt by the operator, is developed by using strain gages and appropriate instrumental amplifiers.

Haptic Glove Using Compression-Induced Friction Torque
Volume 2: Control, Monitoring, and Energy Harvesting of Vibratory Systems; Cooperative and Networked Control; Delay Systems; Dynamical Modeling and Diagnostics in Biomedical Systems; Estimation and Id of Energy Systems; Fault Detection; Flow and Thermal Systems; Haptics and Hand Motion; Human Assistive Systems and Wearable Robots; Instrumentation and Characterization in Bio-Systems; Intelligent Transportation Systems; Linear Systems and Robust Control; Marine Vehicles; Nonholonomic Systems, 2013The aim of this study is to develop a compact haptic glove that can present a variety of grasping sensations. This paper proposes a mechanism of compressing a finger joint to induce friction torque between the link and joint. In order to reduce weight and produce greater force, shape memory alloys were chosen as an actuator. The result of an experiment

Chaos Prediction of Rolling Bearing Friction Torque
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2010Based on the chaos theory, the adding-weight one-rank local-region method was applied to predict the time series of the rolling bearing friction torque. The experimental investigation on the rolling bearing for space applications shows that the method is able to predict effectively the rolling bearing friction torque, only with very small predicted ...

Inward Torque and High-Friction Handles Can Reduce Required Muscle Efforts for Torque Generation
Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 2008Objective: The effects of handle friction and torque direction on muscle activity and torque are empirically investigated using cylindrical handles. Background: A torque biomechanical model that considers contact force, friction, and torque direction was evaluated using different friction handles. Methods: Twelve adults exerted hand torque in opposite
