MAGTWIST: A Magnetically‐Driven Rotary Actuator Using a Traveling‐Wave With Integrated Stiffness Tunability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

Investigation on frictional characteristic of deep-groove ball bearings subjected to radial loads

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
Radial load is of great significant influence on friction characteristic and fatigue life of rolling bearings. A frictional torque analysis was performed on the radially loaded SKF-6205 deep-groove ball bearings.

High torque bellows seal rotary drive [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Bellows seal rotary drive device was developed which allows high torque transmission through sealed compartments. Bearing friction which would normally be carried by sealing bellows in comparable devices is absorbed by universal-gimbal joint.

The influence of wall roughness on bubble drag reduction in Taylor-Couette turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We experimentally study the influence of wall roughness on bubble drag reduction in turbulent Taylor-Couette flow, i.e.\ the flow between two concentric, independently rotating cylinders.

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.

Influence of Structural Parameters of Main Load Train of Asymmetric Hub Bearings on Friction Torque

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2023
Aiming at the problem of energy consumption caused by the asymmetric hub bearing friction and in order to more accurately analyze the influence of structural parameters on the friction torque, an improved analysis model of friction torque of asymmetric ...

Study on the Engagement Characteristics and Control Strategy of High Speed Difference Dry Friction Clutch

open access: yesMachines, 2023
In the short/vertical take-off and landing aircraft propulsion system, the vertical take-off/landing and rapid flight are switched through the engagement and disconnection of the dry friction clutch. The smooth and rapid connection of the friction clutch

Micro-macro transition and simplified contact models for wet granular materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Wet granular materials in a quasi-static steady state shear flow have been studied with discrete particle simulations. Macroscopic quantities, consistent with the conservation laws of continuum theory, are obtained by time averaging and spatial coarse ...
