A Novel Experimental Test Bench to Investigate the Effects of Cutting Fluids on the Frictional Conditions in Metal Cutting

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, 2020
The tribological effect of cutting fluids in the machining processes to reduce the friction in the cutting zone is still widely unknown. Most test benches and procedures do not represent the contact conditions of machining processes adequately ...

Contact problems with friction: models and simulations [PDF]

open access: yesSimulation Modelling Practice and Theory, 2003
This article deals with the modeling and the numerical simulation of contact and friction problems. Some friction formulations are proposed and numerical methods of resolution by finite elements are presented. Two methods are more particularly developed.

Frictional contact of a rigid punch on an arbitrarily oriented gradient half-plane

open access: yes, 2015
Frictional contact of a rigid punch on a half-plane with shear modulus varying according to an exponential gradient in an arbitrary direction is investigated in this paper.

Influence of Heterogeneous Contact Stiffness and Heterogeneous Friction Coefficient on Frictional Squeal

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2018
Contact stiffness and friction coefficient are excitation sources and key influencing factors to frictional squeal with obvious inhomogeneous characteristic that is always neglected.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Contact mechanics modelling of articular cartilage and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease of articular cartilage. The normal cartilage is known to be an excellent bearing material with remarkable lubricating properties and very low frictional co-efficient and wear and generally survives the ...

Adhesive wear and frictional characteristics of UHMWPE and HDPE sliding against different counterfaces under dry contact condition

open access: yes, 2010
The current work evaluates the wear and frictional performance of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) sliding against different metal counterfaces, stainless steel(SS), mild steel (MS) and aluminium (Al),

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Bifurcation shifts in a rotor-stator contact system under frictional forces to higher rotational speeds caused by stator thickness

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal
Accurate simulations of detrimental vibrations observed in a rotor-stator contact system are beneficial. Existing contact models that consider the contact configurations between the rotor and stator cannot deal with the frictional forces simultaneously ...

Frictional Response of Reinforced Polymers under Quasistatic and Fast-Transient Dry Contact Conditions

open access: yesLubricants, 2023
Reinforced polymers have recently gained interest because of their high stiffness associated with the classical features and cost-effectiveness of polymers.
