Frontal disconnection surgery for drug‐resistant epilepsy: Outcome in a series of 16 patients
Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of frontal disconnection surgery in seizure control and related consequences in a consecutive patient series. Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent frontal disconnection surgery ...

Lateral Frontal Lobe Seizures [PDF]
Summary: On the basis of cytoarchitectural and functional studies, the frontal lobe can be subdivided into the primary motor cortex, premotor cortex, prefrontal cortex, and the limbic and paralimbic cortices. However, we are still a long way from clearly identifying individual frontal lobe epilepsies. Instead, we are limited to a discussion of frontal

Evidence of Iron Accumulation in Cerebral Adrenoleukodystrophy: A Potential Novel Disease Mechanism
ABSTRACT In this first application of Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Source Separation to cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy, we uncovered alterations in iron and myelin within lesions and normal appearing white matter. As validation, we demonstrate abnormal iron accumulation in those same compartments within primary brain tissue.

Brain regions concerned with perceptual skills in tennis: An fMRI study [PDF]
Sporting performance makes special demands on perceptual skills, but the neural mechanisms underlying such performance are little understood. We address this issue, making use of fMRI to identify the brain areas activated in viewing and responding to ...

Dorsolateral Frontal Lobe Epilepsy [PDF]
Dorsolateral frontal lobe seizures often present as a diagnostic challenge. The diverse semiologies may not produce lateralizing or localizing signs and can appear bizarre and suggest psychogenic events. Unfortunately, scalp electroencephalographic (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are often unsatisfactory.

Location‐Specific Hematoma Volume Predicts Early Neurological Deterioration in Supratentorial ICH
ABSTRACT Objective Early neurological deterioration (END) adversely affects outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). This study aimed to determine the location‐specific hematoma volumes for END in supratentorial ICH patients. Methods We retrospectively analyzed supratentorial ICH patients presenting from two prospective cohorts.

Why overlearned sequences are special: distinct neural networks in the right hemisphere for ordinal sequences [PDF]
Written and spoken words activate left hemisphere areas involved in language processing. However, we here show that overlearned sequences (e.g. letters, numbers, weekdays, months) involve an unexpected right hemispheric activation in both the middle ...

Effects of cue focality on the neural mechanisms of prospective memory: A meta-analysis of neuroimaging studies [PDF]
Remembering to execute pre-defined intentions at the appropriate time in the future is typically referred to as Prospective Memory (PM). Studies of PM showed that distinct cognitive processes underlie the execution of delayed intentions depending on ...
